Default Heal light leveling question

When my h lights turn on they seem to rise to a certain level. I had them apart for some wire insulation repair and did not see anything that I think was mechanical within the housing, BUT...today when I returned home and pulled into the garage one h Light was low and one was at the normal height. Turned car off and both came on at same level. Do I have some sort of self leveling mechanism or?

DO you have Active Lighting? If the lights dance around when first turned on, they are adaptive.
Either way, sometimes the blinder for the low beams get stuck for a bit and the high beams appear not high because that's how it works.

I thought all vehicles with HID lights fitted are self levelling by design, so that headlights doesn't blind on coming drivers?

Yeah, even without the ‘adaptive’ option, they do a down-up bounce when starting the car (the adaptives also do a left-right swivel).

To be honest, I've only driven our XKR at night maybe a dozen times in the 4 years since we had it. I've notice the swivel of the headlights taking corners. I feel the HID are probably state of the art 15 years ago but are mediocre at best compare to the current crop of multi LED headlights from the likes of Lexus Audi etc. That's probably why I hardly drive her in the dark. hahaha

If I have self leveling then I guess the answer to my higher and lower left and right side might have to do with a failing battery, right?
('it is always the battery stupid')
another question
should the left and right alignment look like # 1, #2 or other?
thanks
