Default Headlamp operation.

2005 S-Type 2.7D with self leveling HID h/lights.

can anyone tell me the sequence of the headlamps
main Beam.
outer and inner lights on (all 4 lights)
dipped.
Inner two off, outer on
do the outer headlamps ones have twin filament bulbs? (main & dip)
in other words do the outer lights dip
because my outer lamps do not appear to change when going from main to dip.
the dip just seems to switch the inner lights on/off only.

Correct. The low beams are HID the high beams are Halogen. On high both stay on.

Thanks, Clubbairth1,
But do the outer HID lights dip?
or are they a single filament, and the self leveling dips?

when I dip my lights the outers stay steady, and (as you say) the inners go off.

not really paid that much attention but car is going for an MOT, and my older cars have always had twin element bulbs.
on dip my lights look kinda high.
the self leveling works but I have (Member Brutal's) screw fix.
Its a long time since I had an MOT, (they were scraped in Florida years ago) they are now expensive and complicated like most things these days.

Yes. Only the outer lights dip and are self leveling. The inner lights are halogen and are fixed other than the normal adjustment done manually.

The S Type HID's are NOT bi-level. So the HID is projecting the same light on low or high beam.

Thanks for the explanation, I had the car MOT and had to adjust the screw-fix to lower the main beam, then it passed.
I have not driven the car in the dark since. I think that when I get time I will replace the internal brackets, in the meantime I am not sure (and trying to find out from other threads) if Brutals screw fix works with the screw half way in, or will it allow the headlamp beam to bounce up and down.

I think he's answered that in your other thread on this.
