Default high pitched whine

2011 XKR getting an intermittent high pitched whine. seems more prevalent when starting for the first 10-15 miles or so. the car has 20K miles so i thought it might need brakes, but my local dealer said the brake replacement would be indicated by a light?
Any advice out there?

I also get that. Try turning off your a/c and see if it goes away. I can't tell you what causes it, but since the weather has started to heat up in south Texas the whine is back.

I have a bit of that noise from mine for the last 2 months, just on start up, or if the car has been sitting for a while. It lasts for around a minute and just sounds like a whining motor going then slowing down. IT seems to be coming from behind the front right hand air breather, down a the bottom of the engine bay. There is no noise in the car.
