How accurate is the MPG display
I only have maybe 4 hours of driving on the car so far and just doing local driving I am seeing 18.4 MPG on the display. I have hit the go peddle and can watch it go down but I have yet taken it on a road trip. Has anyone done the hand calculating (old method) to see if the read out is accurate.
With my previous, '08XK I did some comparisons between the displayed and actual calculated values. Generally, the displayed MPG proved to be slightly optimistic to the tune of less than 1 MPG difference.
I've had my car three months and have found it to be within a mile per gallon. Just got back from my first road trip and actually got 25 mpg on one tank. Never expected to actually get epa estimated. Of course much lower when driving aggressively (but so worth the extra gas).
mine sits at about 20.3MPG for the XKR-S. Range is around 300 miles and fillups around 15gallons, so it seems pretty accurate to me. Any C&C event I go to is 1 to 1 1/2 hours away from where I live. I spent 2-3 hours on cruise every weekend to and from events. The V8 just churns over at 2,000rpm and seems very content and frugal for a car that can tear the tarmac to pieces at a moments notice.
Even when I want to go on a nice scenic drive it takes me 2-3 hours to and from. I live on the Eastern Shore which is completely flat and boring for a drive. The spirited drive through some mountains for an hour or so seem to barely put a dent in that as it is bracketed by highway cruising.

I am pleased with the Jaguar XKR considering its a 4.2L supercharged engine.
My Porsche 981 is the real knockout......23/24 locally....28/30 highway cruising at 70/75 mph.

A more important fact that could get you out of trouble. When the Range = 0 miles, you can drive on for at least another 12 miles.
I didn't really want to test this feature of the Trip Computer but there's not many service stations open in Yorkshire, UK in the middle of the night!

I am not absolutely sure what the reserve in the XK is, but certainly more than 1 gallon and most likely less than 2. Most cars have a 50 mile range reserve, I would pitch the XK at the very least at 20 miles if not 30. I am very confident that I can do 30 miles when the range says 0 to go, not in the city of course but highway, back roads etc. while being frugal with the gas pedal.
It set me off to find the exact amount:

I.3 Imperial gallons = 1.58 US gallons.
