Hey there, I have no idea how to remove it. But I wanted to share what I did, maybe it's an option for you. I used Plastidip (Dipyourcar.com) to make mine gray. They have a black, a matte version, but you can use a spray on top of that to make it shine.
Cost: 6 bucks for the can, took me less than an hour. Every idiot can do it, as long as you take your time, and comes right off if you F up. amazing stuff.
Great thing is: I can just pull it off if I don't like it anymore, and in the mean time it protects the chrome under it. Great and cost effective way to try out a different look. I did my wheels that way too (in black), as well as the trim around the roof (also in black), both was chrome before.
Take a look, first 2 pics with chrome wheels, and the silver/brushed back (middle car), then gray back, black wheels, black wheel with roof down (you can see the black trim around the window/opening:

Great Idea Marko. Looks great as well. I think I will plasti dip the window trim and back panel, but was thinking of painting the wheels.
Question: When washing the plastidip wheels...does it hold up to washing with a brush etc without tearing??
Thanks for posting the pictures!
Is till would love to take the rear trim off first, if not a hassle. Little easier than masking...

I think it really depends how well you apply it. I had to give it a few tries before I got better at it. For example, when masking, you actually need to leave a lip free. That is where the plastidip will break and just come off. If you mask it right to the edge, the plastidip will react with the tape and you won't get it off clean.
