Default How to manually lower antenna 2007 xk

Hello - First post. Just bought a blue 2007 xk convertible - LOVE it!

I believe that I saw somewhere in these posts a way to manually lower the antenna - I just can't find that post again.

Situation: My '07 antenna won't go down (it has been checked out and it is the motor). I just activated Sirius so I no longer need the antenna but I do need it lowered in order to use my car cover.

Question: Is there a way to manually lower the antenna, and if so, how is it done?

Thank you!

how do i lower the power antenna manually? - MR2 Owners Club Message Board

Never had to do it but some ideas here: basically trying to push it down either manually or if motor runs at all, pushing down when it is in the downward sequence but not grabbing.

Otherwise take the unit out and open it up. You can just disengage the teeth from the gear and pull it down. Once finished don't connect electrical but re-install the unit to plug the hole if that is how you want the hole plugged.

Did you ever get the antenna to drop?

Default Use Allen wrench?

Planning to give it a go tomorrow.

I thought I read about using the provided Allen wrench to somehow lower the antenna when the motor doesn't work. Is anyone familiar with his process?

Thanks.

That method works, take it apart, and manually push it down. or just get another one from the junk yard.

Thanks. Tried to find a used one - no luck yet (evidently they are quite popular). For now, happy without a working antenna as I am just using satellite radio.

Anyone know how to use the provide allen wrench to lower the antenna manually.

You mentioned "the provided allen wrench". The only provided allen wrench I am aware of is for raising or lowering the convertible top manually. If it has a dual purpose as a tool to lower the antenna I have never heard of it...and I am on my third XKsomething.

I lowered mine by starting inch by inch with the fattest part first just pushing it down. Once down did the "antenna delete" using the mod to still get antenna reception and pulled the antenna fuse to assure it wouldn't come up again.

Leeper and others were right - just push the d*&m thing down - worked great. Thanks for all of the ideas and support.

Post-purchase mechanical work is done - off to the detail shop :-)

Glad to hear. Its pretty rare "brute force" is the solution on these but this was one of those exceptions!

with my conv I went for the hidden antenna in the trunk lid, total cost was maybe $40 and a couple hours time - reception is as good as with the periscope but did lose AM... I use satellite radio but occasionally like to hear a local station.

Glad you were able to lower it
