Default humming noise and vibration when coming to a stop

Hi ,
Just joined this forum . I see lot's of great information . I recently purchased a 2011 XK . My last Jaguar was a 2006 XJR great car . My question is when I am coming to a stop at about 5 MPH I start to hear a humming noise and feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel . To me it sounds like the fuel pump but doesn't make sense as soon as I take off it goes away. Maybe this is normal. Any input would be appreciated . Thanks in advance

I would think that vibration through the steering wheel at very low speeds is more likely to be the power steering pump. Is it present when the car is stationary? If so, you might be able to lift the bonnet and hear whether it is coming from the PAS pump area.

Is your noise speed-dependent? I first though front wheel bearings.

It starts when slowing down to a stop at around 5MPH and continues when stopped and idling then goes away the moment I take off >

So, pull up to a stop & leave it in drive, pull on the handbrake, open the bonnet & try to determine where the noise is coming from.

If the noise stops when you take your foot off the brake then get an assistant to drive it so you can open the bonnet & listen for it.

Just don't stand right in front of the car when the assistant starts to drive it. 😲

😉

The big advantage of having a car with a hood that opens from the back. Just watch the toes and the mirror.
