I am a bit of an idiot....
My xk doesn't have those chrome buttons because it's from 2008. It seems incredible that in later units components are made that deteriorate with the rain. I can't understand this kind of change for the worse. regards
Try Jaguar Heaven in Stockton CA. You can inquire through their website. You can also check Pacific Motors in the Detroit area. I looked on Ebay and there were several seat control panels from earlier xks, but none with the piano black and chrome finish.
Of course some models of MB and BMW have real leather trim....but just google "Artico Leather" and you will see that Mercedes has successfully fooled many into thinking that if you call vinyl "leather" it IS leather. This is blatant misrepresentation and MB lost at least one law suit because of this. That said, the vinyl used is so good that it is an excellent imitation of leather - but it is not leather. Neither my Mercedes nor my BMW had real leather - the Mercedes vinyl used to be called "MB Tex"....and then they decided a bit of deceit was in order, so they changed the name to Artico Leather. Very clever.
Jaguar, like almost all auto companies, also uses vinyl in some parts of the interior but it never misrepresents it as leather, and in a Jaguar the seat facings (that is, the part your body touches, the seat and backrest) are real leather; the sides and rear panel of the seat may be vinyl to match (and in some models, like the base F-Type, there may be a mix of leather and Alcantara). And in many cases, there is full leather, as in my 2007 XK - and in my 2015 F-type, virtually the entire interior trim is (real) leather: door trim, every part of the seats, dashboard, console and even the roof trim.
there seems to be an automatic assumption that things that sometimes go wrong in a Jaguar never go wrong in other luxury makes. This is simply and proveably untrue. Check for failures in Porsches, Bentleys, Maseratis, Mercedes and BMW...you might find it shocking.
Off topic, I know. So 'nuff said. Basta.
Tranquilo....
