Inspection woes
I took the jag in for inspection and it has a couple issues.
First is needing a new cat. Jaguar replacement is $1400. Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative?
Second is the 3rd brake light. It's LED, so it shouldn't be an issue. However it is getting no power, and all fuses are intact. All other lights work. Any idea what could be causing this?
Also new tires, but I was expecting that.

As for the 3rd brake light, mine stopped working but I found a burned out diode on that little in-line circuit board inside the boot liner. I soldered on a replacement and it's been perfect ever since. It was nowhere near as big a job as it sounds. Maybe your problem, maybe not. A diode costs pennies, a new board is unavailable and a new light assembly is hundreds.

Catalytic Converters are emission control devices which are designed to last the life of the vehicle and do not normally require replacement. Furthermore, if the vehicle is properly used and maintained, original converters are covered by the emission control warranty for 8 years or 80,000 miles.

Without a "California Certified" stamp on replacement cats the inspection station will not do a smog test on your car. There are a few exceptions if you can prove they were replaced before the law went into effect. Bottom line is you get to pay a few hundred dollars extra for the "California Certification" on your cats if you live in California and want your car smog tested.
Another reason I am glad that I don't live in California anymore.

I'll get the car back and get it in my garage. Problem is it's so low, it's hard to get to.

Rattling means the ceramic has broken down and you'll run the risk of clogging or it'll rattle all the way back to the muffler. The ceramic is wrapped in a glass pad and the shell squeezes the pad to hold the ceramic in place.

I suggest you shop around online for OEM part yourself. I guarantee that dealership isn't giving you the best price @ 1400. If you come to them with "look here I found this part for $1000" they might price match it.
