Interesting that the prototype seems to be a left-hand drive model...

I can tell upon close scrutiny that beneath the vinyl is the body of the C-X16 concept, although the back deck is obviously different from the concept's coupe form. I had to look carefully as at first it looks more like a shortened XK than the C-X16. I don't think I'd trade the XKR vert for it, but the coupe is another story.

Will look forward to the coupe. Just in time for my next cyclical trade.

Is this F Type destined to be the replacement for the XK?

I'm not up on industry developments but it has been my impression that the XK successor needs to be smaller. Standing by itself it looks great. However, when parked next to E Types, Corvettes and Porsches it comes off as quite large.

I actually like that our XK/XKRs are large, went to an auto show where the XKR was in close proximity to other sports cars and it dwarfed the Ferraris and Lambos. The GTR however is like the XKR and fits this "large and in charge" comparison to other sports cars. IMHO it gives them a greater presence when placed close to the well known exotics.

From what I've read there will be a next generation XK for 2014, and it will be slightly larger to have more usable rear seats. It could very likely move further up-market as well. The F-type slots in below the XK.

I'm going to an invite-only Jaguar ALIVE event on the 14th. I've heard some wild rumours that the F-type maybe there. If it is and there's no NDA, I'll take some photos and post them here.

There are spy shots of the new XK on this forum, and from what has been written, Bruce is correct. The front end of the new XK is more like a CLS style. The new XK will be more upscale than it is currently with the F-type slightly below where the XK sits currently.

I wonder how the 2007-2013 XK/XKRs will be remembered by history, in light of the car moving much more upmarket (and growing in size).

From reading the threads on those taking the XK to the track, I expect this series of car to be highly valuable in the future. The track pedigree is just starting to emerge. The looks of the car are unanimously praised and the car is generally reliable. I think history will be quite positive on the XK. Owners will hold on their cars and used models will plateau at a better price over the original price than the previous generation XK8 did.

I think the desirability of the most sought after XK's of the past have always been based on high performance and sporting form, and the current XKR and XKR-S fit that profile particularly well. I would suggest that Jaguar plans to continue that tradition with the new F-Type, not a stretched and more luxurious XK.

You'll also see the current XKR on "lists" of most desirable automobiles alongside the E-Type and other iconic vehicles, and together with its low production numbers makes it a contemporary classic and collectible model. The move to hybrid power will only strengthen its appeal over time.
