Joanie - In case you didn't notice you have posted in the wrong forum. This forum is for X150's also know as XKs or XKRs. SK8 were last produced in 2006 for the USA and XKs began here in 2007. If you have questions/problems you will have better results if you post regarding them in the proper forum.

Anyone with experience with Bosch?
Any preference on these, in the Pep Boys link? Looks like the priciest one is an AGM.

What they can't check is how much the battery is self-discharging if it is old. How old was the original? I would want my money back from the first garage. BTW yes, this is the wrong forum for an XK8.Originally Posted by RedRider48
It sounds like "they" did a poor job at checking the battery. Any good local AutoZone, Advance Auto, or "Battery Warehouse chain can test a battery and will discuss the procedure. While at it, they can test the charging system as a whole too. It could be the Alternator is not charging at the proper rates.I hear this many times over.......

Been a bit disappointed with the high self-discharge on the Silver's - can't speak for the AGM versions.Originally Posted by pk4144

My 2014 XK has only not started once due to discharged battery. ( Lots of short runs ).Since that event I charge the battery once per week but note at max charge only 12.6 V are attained. According to main dealer this as per spec.
Using the same charger ( Ring RCB 212 ) on the battery on my E Type, 13.7 volts are attained. Starting trouble occurs around 12 V on the XK which gives very little leeway from 12.6 V. Would love to attain 13.7 V for obvious reasons but it escapes me how I can achieve this. XK's battery has been checked and given clean bill of health. Any ideas anyone?

12.6 V is normal battery voltage at rest. A battery has 6 cells and each one is fully charged at 2.1V which gives you the 12.6 V. With the battery fully charged and waiting after about one hour what is the voltage. You need to check this without opening the car as once you do it will start to drain voltage. If after an hour if you have less then 12.6 V then you have a battery problem. The 2014 XK charging system is a CPU controlled charge so the charging is based on what the battery needs . If you have greater then 13 V in your other battery after charging it should level out to 12.6 V in an hour or so. I would have your charging system tested to see if it is functioning correctly.

I know this is a pretty old post but it helped me out greatly. After I found the post, the information allowed me to replace my battery without too much fuss. Thank you to Stillwaters for the original postand steps.
After the battery was installed and I went through the window reset, I could not get the top to reset. I tried to put it up, then down several times, but no luck.
It became very frustrating. It was the information in this thread that allowed me to successfully reset the convertible top: Convertiblehood will not close https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk-xkr-x150-33/convertible-hood-will-not-close-178209/
In particular, it was the fact to remove the fuse F8 and the statement, “the pump valve must be turned fully clockwise after the top has been manually lowered.” All the informationI had previously stated to wind the pump Anticlockwise. Thank you very much to WhiteXKR.
NOTE: I would like to add a comment to make the job a little easier. As the battery is heavy and located in an awkward spot, I put the floor back into the Boot / Trunk, over the spare wheel. Then put two pieces of timber, (650 x 90 x 40mm), to slide the old battery out and the new one in. 40mm high timber is almost exactly the same height the battery is above the floor. Made it very easy, no straining or struggling to locate the battery onto the carrier.
Regards

This is an amazing (if old) thread with oodles of information. BUT (and there always is a but, right?) I could not follow the instructions that described the process for removing the rear battery access panel in an XK150 convertible! There is a retractable luggage "shade" and a horizontal steel bar in the trunk and the steel bar blocks my ability to remove the panel after I have removed the four retaining screws. The panel is completely loose, but I cannot get it up and over the bar, nor can I slip it beneath the bar. So what am I missing here??
thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I've done this on my '08 XK-R Cvt and don't recall having seen what you are referring to. Post a pic of what you're seeing there/.

I’ve removed that panel numerous times without issue. No steel bar. Maybe a previous owner added something? As above, please post pictures.

I think what you're referring to is the luggage separator, which keeps items from sliding into the area needed for the top to retract into. The separator is removeable to make access for the battery. In my '09 owner manual (a pdf can be found in the "Owners Handbook" sticky at the top of the forum) the luggage separator removal instructions are on page 114. I assume the process is similar for your '08.
Apologies in advance if I've misjudged.

It sounds like you may be describing the container that the luggage partition rolls back into that runs the width of the trunk. It is clipped into the plastic moldings on either side of the trunk. To remove it. you just push upwards at either end and the entire luggage partition assembly will come out of the trunk so you can slide back the trim panel and access the battery. You will also need to remove the spare wheel cover/trunk floor to slide back the battery trim panel.Originally Posted by Michael1950

If you need to look up how to re-position the luggage partition, there is probably a thread on here. You have to raise it at the trailing edge and tilt it back into the moldings on either side while making sure that you have located the plastic tabs on the partition in the tracks in the side moldings. If you don't relocate it properly, the convertible top sensor will think that the luggage separator is in the 'down' position (even though it is physically in the up position) and won't let the convertible top go up and down. So if you do the work on the battery, put it all back together and find the convertible roof won't retract, just make sure you have reinstalled the luggage partition properly.

For any who may not have figured this out, the "hood" referred to in the error message is actually the convertible top. If you ever have to turn off the car with the top partially retracted, you will have to follow the reset process for the top, because the controller will lose track of the position of the top when you turn off the car.Originally Posted by ru4pat21
replaced battery in 2007 xk. can't get top to go down now. that cover in trunk has to be just so. keep getting reading on my dash that says it is not in correctly. can anyone help or should i go to dealer. dash also said my hood not closed. i slammed that 3 times,so i know it it closed. I know somehow system needs to be reste as I did not have another source of power when I took out the battery.any help would be appreciated as my closest dealer is about 100 miles away. thanks
Pull fuse F8 (yellow, 5 amp) from the fuse box between the rear "seats". Leave it out for at least 2 minutes so that the top controller discharges and resets itself. Reinstall fuse and try again.
