Default Battery replacement

Good afternoon....Wanting to replace my current battery with a "non acid" one...so far have had no luck with my mechanic finding one via the parts houses...
was wondering if someone had replaced the battery on a 2008 XK convertible and if so what brand and part number if possible....thanks..I thought I read something here
about this being done but haven't located it yet....

Pep Boys has an AGM battery.
Its also acid but not in the spillable form- thus Absorbed Glass Mat.

Feel free to do some research. No Jaguar XK ever came from the factory with an AGM battery... Only acid filled. There is a difference on how it is maintained.. I changed my 7 year old factory battery with an Acid filled Walmart battery. So far so good. Good luck.

Well not true but perhaps not relevant for the OP. AGM batteries were installed in Jaguars, but on the 2010 >. He has an 08. So the question relates to the alternator and it's charging rate. The battery monitoring system would provide self calibration and adjust the charge on the 2010 >, but no such animal on the 08.

The PO had fitted this Bosch S4 AGM battery in my 2007 XK Coupe and I had zero electrical issues in the four years I had the car.

. Thanks for any correction. The info I received was from my local Jag dealership’s shop foreman. So much for the reliability of his info. Well at least as corrected the 2010-2015 only came with flooded batteries. Thanks again.

I think the whole AGM batteries actually overcharging is a bit overblown, but no data to support it, just no horror stories that say otherwise. I suspect if you do an excessive amount of highway driving, it could shorten the battery life due to overcharge. For most of us on the forum, I doubt that's real life.

No sir. I think the 2010 > models came with both and the 07 - 09 were flooded.

My 2014 which is in the last 1000 built has a wet OE Varta battery fitted.

2012 OEM was a flood battery and it was replaced by previous owner with a flood type in 2014.

Um, I don't think that is actually an AGM battery. Are you sure?

NO - I may be confusing it with the specification of those in my Bentley but I don't have that Jaguar now. However, it was definitely zero maintenance.

It's a wet cell (flooded) battery, not AGM, per the technical specs in this link:

I mentioned it in the past that talking to my service manager he said he never saw an AGM battery in any XK/XKR delivered from the factory. He did mention that he first started seeing AGM batteries when the start/stop feature was available in the Jaguar/LR vehicles. But he mention the AGM was a 2nd battery used in the circuit to supplement the start/stop feature. It is hard to tell what had been installed in any X150 unless you were the original owner or had the battery history of the car. So I suspect there is no real data to support either argument. The statement in the page above is broad to cover all vehicles and the not also states replace wet with wet and AGM with AGM. The real question is does the charging system need to be adjusted to either battery and if not what will happen. As a side note why does the Ctek have a specific charging rate for AGM vs flood.

Default battery replacement

Thanks for all the info....if I am reading this correctly it appears that its not recommended..however there hasn't been any problems with doing so...
I just want to eliminate all the gremlins that a cheap battery brings with it...which is what my dealer installed when I bought it 3 years ago...thanks again

Dan, yes. If it were my car and I didn't do extensive highway driving @ freeway speeds, I would be comfortable with an AGM.

I've never had any battery gremlins because I have always attached my battery maintainer when my XKR is parked and locked in my garage. The OEM flooded battery does the job, and an AGM battery isn't necessary if you always use a CTEK or comparable battery maintainer.
