Jaguar's massive marketing campaign is working. The more people I talk to about the Jaguar brand the more people say Jaguar's are bad *** reliable cars. They look, perform, and sound fantastic at the same time being reliable.

 

Oh no! I won't be able to buy another cheap used one

 

I'm sold! I want an XFRS or whatever they're called -- bad *** doesn't begin to describe it!

 

Heard lots of negative remarks and rumors about the Jaguar brand for many years. Took the leap after seeing the new 2014 F-Type into a used 2009 XKR convert and just love the car. So far the car has run flawlessly, and think that the quality control is much better in the newer models than most people might think.

Glad I made the leap into the Jaguar brand with no regrets.

It's one great automobile.

 

I have had 2 modern Jaguars. Both of them have had a lot their fair share of gremlins that I have not experienced on other cars. Even though they have not left me stranded, I do not consider them particularly reliable. I'm sure things have improved since 2007, though!

 

Jaguar seems to have turned their ship around these last few years; concentrating on performance and marketing more aggressively bring the marque into consideration for buyers that never would have considered the brand. Me, for one.

That said, only the massive depreciation allowed me to buy one in good conscience. Comparing year-old low-mile GT-Rs still selling at a premium vs a gorgeous 6000-mile Jaguar at nearly 30% discount? Easy choice.

I cannot afford budget busting killer cars. Jag XKR 2002 and on are fine. Really. BMW M5? $4-5K variable valve timing sys issues (VANOS etc). BMW SMG transmission = $7500.00. You cannot replace just part of it. All or nothing.

Porsche Boxster 1997-2008 or Porsche 911 1999-2008? $15,000 minimum risk from sudden, unpreventable engine failure per IMS oversight by factory! Ask any mechanic. Buy Porsche before or after, but during you are gambling unless it is a Turbo or GT3 with "Metzger" motor that is not susceptible.

Jaguar does not have singular, budget busting failure.

 

IMO, with a Jaguar, you suffer death by a thousand cuts. With the Germans, you're decapitated in an instant!

 

I don't see your point. I'd put my XKR up against any BMW M6, or Mercedes SL AMG. The XKR IMO is the best all around GT built on the road.

That's one of my favourite sayings. I had the XF from when it came out - after the usual first of a model issues which had it back to Jag a few times in the first year or so (including a crack in the roof!), I didnt have any problems with it over 4 1/2 years of ownership.

My business partner bought a low km audi a5 diesel 3 litre. At just on 3 years old, it has had all sorts of issues with leaks and now a problem with the turbo and engine mount. It is a nice car, but the issues that he is having are what you might have expected from a Jag, 10 years plus ago.

 

Since XJ350, Jaguar is on a level playing field with any luxury marque out there.

 

I was never a Jag guy, prior to the two I've owned. When I bought my first XF ('09 Supercharged) in 2009, I was looking for a loaded BMW, Mercedes, or Audi. I'd previously owned BMWs, Audis, and Infinitis, and was really looking for a loaded BMW, Audi, or Mercedes. I needed a 4-door for work and couldn't have afforded a newish XK at that time anyway, so Jags hadn't really appealed to me until the XFS. And, probably like most people, my impression was that they were unreliable, owned by Ford, etc. But, I took a chance and bought that '09 XFS and had a great two-year experience with it. So much so that I traded it in on an '11 XFR, which I've now had for over two years. I have absolutely loved both of them and would buy another Jag in an instant. I'd probably still take a look at what the Germans had to offer, but Jag has developed somewhat of a place in my heart, now, so I hope they don't screw up the run they've been on for the past several years.

 

I just passed my '04 XJR to my daughter, I would say, in the 10 years of ownership from new, it was a good , if not, great ride. Just last summer, I replaced the OEM battery. Really? Yes!
Anyway, I hope their tide has still changed, as I have an 08 Portfolio coming. We'll, see.....?

 

Agreed. Don't you just wish they'd keep it to themselves!

I've owned 2.
First was a 1998 XJ8 which bought in 2002 with 30K. Ran perfectly for 2 years
Second was a 2004 XJ VDP which has been perfect for 10yrs
Let's hope XK is just as good.
No other cars I've owned have been 100% perfect except these two!
That includes, BMW's, Lotus, Isuzus, Subarus, Fords, Buicks, Mitsubishis, Mazdas, Alfa Romeos, Toyotas, Hondas. This means besides service the cars have needed NOTHING!

 

I still stand by my statement. Jaguars have all sorts of little niggles that bother me. But none of them are catastrophic problems that you might see with other European brands.

I have never had a car that was perfect from a reliability/build quality standpoint. There is no such car!

They are really bad *** reliable.
Since the first X100 and X308 they are awesome every-day reliable cars. Yeah, i know about a tensioner issue on an early engines, i know about 5hp24 issues, but those issues comes out after a quite big milage.
The X350 and X150 are even more reliable and, IMO, they are a last of unique Jaguar breed - sporty, but comfortable, great looking and with true Lyons-inpired Jaguar style.
The X150 is the last and is the best true GT car.
For me it's sad to see that new design - especcialy of a new XJ (hey, it's not an XJ at all!). X-type and coming soon XE are a shame of a brand (IMO).
But i'm glad and proud that i've had a true Jaguars - XJ40, X308 XJ8 and now i'm getting a tons of fun with a XKR.

 

I have owned lots of Jaguars, and I have 4 at present; I have also owned Mercedes and BMW. In fact, I am a recovering BMW owner. That car came home on a tow truck more times than I can remember. The Jaguars have never let me down. Never. My wife's daily-use X-Type is now in year 10 - we have had only ONE repair: replacement of an 02 sensor. Can any Toyota match that? The newer Jags are the equal of or better than any car on the road for fit, finish, performance and reliability - but in addition they have an aura of class and beauty that nothing else can match. Just opening the door and looking at that leather and wood makes me smile. How many BMW owners park their car, walk away and then turn to look back at it? Every Jaguar owner does because the beauty is so captivating. And if you have been to the factory to see how they are built (I have), your pride in driving these beautiful machines is ever greater.
