Default Key Fob won't work after new AGM Battery?

I replaced my car battery today with a new AGM Battery. I reset all of the settings and everything seemed to be working properly. When I got home and went to lock the doors with the key fob, the car doors won't lock or unlock the car from outside the car. I can start the car with the key fob with me with no errors which means that the car recognizes the fob otherwise the car wouldn't start. Also, when I press the fob button while the fob is in the car, it works.

Why wouldn't the fob work outside the car? I tried putting a new battery inside the fob and that didn't fix the problem.

Any help is appreciated.

Ken

Just because you have a new AGM battery doesn't mean it's fully charged. It may have been sitting on the retailer's shelf for months discharging. Charge it overnight with a 10 amp battery charger. A battery maintainer will take much longer.

See this old thread from 2016, in particular post #17 (thanks, Sean W):

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I read through the posts. Since the fob works when inside the car, wouldn't that mean that Fuse 19 is ok? Since I only have a CTEK maintainer, do you have any sense as to how long it will take a maintainer to fully charge the battery?

Thanks again.

Not long ago I put a new AGM battery in the XJ8. It was a Saturday. I installed the battery about noon or so, hooked it up to the CTEK and didn't mess with it anymore that day and instead went about my other chores. Didn't turn on the ignition or try to start it or anything. I checked around 5:00pm or so before going out to dinner and it had not reached the standby mode yet, but I had forgotten and left the trunk lid open so that was probably slowing it down some. I closed the trunk lid and later checked again when I got home, just to make sure everything was still good, that it hadn't blown up or anything (I've had some incidents with batteries and lesser brand battery maintainers), maybe around 9:00pm, and it still was in the charging mode. There were no hissing or bubbling sounds coming from the battery, no lights flashing on the unit, so I went to bed. It was finished the next morning, but it could have been finished by 9:01pm, who knows. It certainly depends on the state of charge when the charging cycle starts, but perhaps that's a rather verbose way to say don't be surprised if it does take 9 hours or more. Good luck sorting it out.

My first XKR, an XK100, took about three days using a 0.75 Amp charger the first time I hooked it up after buying it from a main dealer.

I put the car on the CTEK yesterday at about 2:00pm. Came out this morning at 8:30am and the key fobs are working perfectly!

Thanks everyone for their guidance!!

Rule #1. The first thing to do with any electrical problem is to make sure that your battery is fully charged.

Rule #2. Repeat Rule #1.
