Default LED Tail light Repair???

Hey everyone,

My 2011 XK passenger outer tail light is out (partially) part # C2P21451. I initially thought this year had P21 bulbs, but it turns out it is a sealed LED assembly. I see prices new for around $700. Anybody have any tips or repair services they may have used? As a side note, a tiny surface mount led was rattling around inside the assembly, and I assume it might be the cause of the problem. There are a few led's lit, so I don't think it is a wiring or fuse issue.
Thanks for any tips! - Sean

Repair is super difficult, i've tried it, its micro soldering.

I bought a cracked unit it and replaced my lens onto the cracked unit.
early XKs tails are known for LED failure due to heat (I believe later models added vent holes)

I am calling these guys tomorrow to see what they say :
https://autotechrescue.com/product-c...-light-repair/ but the car will need to be off the road for at least a week.

I have a call in to a few breakers also to see what is in stock. Ugh... planned obsolescence at it's worst.

Removal is pretty easy, 3 bolts inside the trunk.
highly recommend replacement over repair.

More leds are likely to go out with 10+ years on the type
of leds used on early models.

Forum sponsee SNG had at one time quite a few from late model cars available. Might have a look there or eBay.

Just curious how you got the lens off. There is no apparent gooey glue, so I assume they are welded plastic or "super glued". Would baking them soften the glue?
