Default Let's hit that horse one more time!

I had a 97 Coupe which I sold about 5 years ago.

Never driven an X150 but the NA 5.0's are rather plentiful now in the low to mid $20,000 range.

I'm looking at a 13 Caviar coupe....but I'm torn by a local 03 XKR coupe. Both mid 70,000 mile cars, $10,000+ delta.

All due respect to the 150 faithful here but I am not a fan of the Taurus-esq front end but I do like it in Caviar. Would prefer a darker interior and a wood wheel as well. Seller has dropped price a bit to the mid $20's.

The 03 front end rattles a bit over bumps and does have a very very small coolant leak. Seller dropped his price $3,000 in past two weeks, I could probably get it for $12,000+/-. In spite of those two issues the Seller has a boatload of service receipts from his and prior owner.

Doubtful I'd ever really be able to wrench either, my skill set ended with my 70 B-GT and 61 Vette technology.

My daily is a 2018 Volvo S90 that I put approx 30,000 miles per....stunning car and I'll drive it till it dies, (per the folks at Sweedspeed they are the Crown Vic of Northern Europe....250,000 to 300,000 miles is not uncommon). It's paid for and at 64 I doubt I'll be driving those kinds of miles by the time it goes.

I've read tons of threads X100 v. X150. I plan on test driving the 13 this Friday.

Thing is....if I buy the 13 what do I do with all my cassette tapes I've held on to since I sold my 97?????

Life is full of difficult choices, and you only live once. You can live in the past or move on and enjoy the 2013 5.0L XK. It's lightyears ahead of that 2003.

It's your money and your choice.

the GreatGarbanzo,
I have both an X100 XKR and an X150 XKR. In the ten years I've owned the X150, I have only ventured back into the X100 about 3 times. Outside of the exterior aesthetics, there is not one single aspect of the X100 that can compare to the X150 platform. Not one! I'm 201,000 miles into my X150, still my daily driver and still enjoyable to drive every day. I couldn't say that about my X100 even on the first day I bought it. Choose the X150, you'll never look back.

Ugh....that iz one pretty x100.

I'll follow up by the weekend after the test drive.

I respect both of your opinions based on your history/contributions to this site.

For some reason I prefer the muted sound from my XK8 vs the XK.
but I agree with Ted...the xk150 is a better platform

I own an 06 XK8 'vert and 07 XKR 'vert. The 06 is gathering dust. Recent BaT prices have flattened. Just waiting. Agree w/ tberg on looks. They are elegant cars (especially in the right colors).

With the 03, you already have front end problems (maybe just upper shock mounts, maybe more) and a "small" coolant problem. Any coolant issue on a SC car has the potential to be expensive. There's the potential top hydraulics problem. If you like working on cars or spending money on repairs, the 03 is a good choice.

The X150 is light years ahead of the X100. Great mix of luxury and sports car. Way more reliable. Easy choice.

Great rational.

Funny, I should post a similar thread on the "other" XK forum.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for the looks of the X100. Can't wait to drive the 13!!

What do you mean by an SC car?

Forgive me in advance if this in bad taste to ask.

I've done a ton of looking all across the U.S. and $25,000 for a 13 XR with 78,000 miles doesn't seem too far out of whack. Anyone disagree?

This is assuming the right current owner, (he had the diff replaced with a OEM unit, A/C compressor and states all fluids, (he has not answered about tranny changed regularly)). Assume he'll have receipts to back it up.

Supercharged.
Bay Area (CA) lux car dealer has an 2010 coupe w/ 68k miles for 20k. Check Bring A Trailer for price comparison.
I'd rather buy private but good dealer deals do show up. Bought my 07 XKR from a small dealer because super low mileage, screaming deal and best service history I've ever seen on a used car.
Good luck.

If it’s in good shape, not a bad price. Recently looked at a 13 XKR convertible, with 42k miles for $36k. Lots of missing/damaged/broken things, and a poorly repaired door scratch/dent. So way over priced for the condition.

Thanks KJ and CA.

Dumb question. I've seen one or two with red start buttons but I've looked at so many I can't seem to find them....and I red a test drive about how it was flashing like a beating heart.

Was that only on certain years/models?

Both my ‘07 and the ‘13 I tested, have red start buttons, but neither ‘pulsed’.

My 2010 has a heartbeat. It's when you first get into the car and before you do anything else. It'd probably help to be in a dark area.

It doesn't look quite right on video since it's LED.

Oh, ok, never looked before starting the car, just get in and the finger is on the button without even thinking about it.

I usually have a pretty good eye for issues especially the really obvious.

Just wondering why this is in the back seat of the car.

I'm 19 hours away from viewing the car!!!

Anything scary here aside from the missing plastic screws?

Missing plastic connectors says someone was really sloppy. What else was done badly? Seems like a lot of rust color in upper shock mount areas. It's hard to tell for sure but one of the fender/frame connects looks off. Maybe damaged bolt (top sheared off) and tweaked sheet metal.
