Default Maserati Alfieri delayed again!

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (2014 to be exact), I was smitten by the Maserati Alfieri that I saw at the Los Angeles Auto Show. I thought it would make a worthy consideration to the soon to be discontinued Jaguar X150, would be priced about the same, and would be released (according to the barkers at the Maserati booth) during 2016. I was reading an article today that stated that it won't be released before 2020 at the earliest and may go through a whole redesign if it ever is actually brought to production. What a pity that one of the most beautiful designs ever penned in the Maserati stable appears destined for the trash heap.

Maserati Alfieri is a 2+2 grand tourer from the Italian car manufacturer Maserati. It was first shown as a concept car at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and was scheduled for a 2016 release but this has been delayed to 2020 to allow the Levante SUV to be launched in 2016.

I don't believe it will ever be released as designed. It will have been a seven year old design by 2020 and all of the excitement created on the car show circuit in 2014 will have dissipated. It's too bad, it was an exceptionally gorgeous coupe.

Shocked that an Italian car is not prematurely released.

But this time they have found the right name. Although they can make the word 4-doors sound outlandishly romantic. Alfieri "the founder of Italian tragedy" is so apropos!!...There is a certain pleasure in tragedy, when I had my Maserati my quota for drama and tragedy was so full that I never even got a cold, nor noticed.

Did I mention turbos sized at 20k and timing belt shot at 40k on a full interference engine.

I was so excited when Wheeler Dealers* took on the Maserati (An English show that takes cars people are trowing out and makes them new again, and fun. there isnt a car or a vintage they havent done, including Jags. Lotus, TVR and Audi Quattro, some so rare that parts are impossible, some so poorly designed that they are not worth replacing like for like) The Maserati was the ONLY car they have done where they put in an all electric drive train. LOL

I agree with TBerg. I too saw the Alfieri at the 2014 LA Auto show. It is/was drop dead gorgeous; too bad about the delay/death.

An Italian car (espeically FCA) not being released on time??? Impossible. No one hits their marks like FCA on meeting product launch dates. (kidding of course)

Regardless of how pretty or cool it is, the cost of ownership would tend to keep me away. I wouldn't want to pay $7000 for an A/C compressor or $5000 for a brake job. A clutch would be about $6000 and by looking at numerous forums I see they only last 35,000 miles. Once clutch every 3 years? No thanks.
