Yep, that would be the oil cooler gasket. I guess they can call it an oil filter gasket?

They said that they were unable to source OEM parts for some of the newly discovered leaking pieces, and that a previous customer with a "similar car" had spent thousands chasing ghosts to fix air leaks on an engine that was coping just fine with the air/fuel imbalance. So I don't really know how to feel about that.

As I mentioned, The 2007 Jaguar XK 4.2L does not have a crankshaft solenoid gasket. It has a Variable Valve Timing (VVT) solenoid seal or the front crankshaft oil seal. If they're referring to a crankshaft oil seal, that has no relation to the valve cover. Have them send you a pic from the engine.

I am sorry to hear you are in this predicament. Its interesting that we have about the same number of miles on the car and I don't have these issues. Wear and tear? ?
Perhaps. But I do drive my car hard, at times... in all the weather. So, I am confused as to how this could happen for you.

Well, I am right now fronting the cost of deferred maintenance items from previous owners, i.e. gaskets, vacuum lines and belts that are wearing out due to never having been replaced. I assume you already did that when you bought your car or did a better job of finding a nice example.

Talking An end to this for now

I've just gotten the car back from the shop, I chose to pay for only the first two air leaks for now, as they don't have a covered parking lot and there is supposed to be some bad weather coming.

I don't have an update so much as I can say that I have a plan for how to move forward with fixing the issues in this thread, and that is good enough for me. Right now my goal is to replace the engine oil pan gasket and the oil cooler gasket at next opportunity. I feel lucky to have escaped the need for a repair that costs as much as the car, and in reality, I will probably spend about $1700 on this specific issue, which can be managed sufficiently for the short-term by watching the oil religiously and adding as needed. As for the CEL, it didn't come back on the drive back, but they said that they would expect it to come back as long as there are any air leaks. I'll name and shame Brookhaven Tire and Auto in Norman for that ludicrous $8000 estimate (and $120 "diagnostic fee" when they definitely didn't even bother to actually diagnose the car), and give my praise to Eurosport in Norman who were much more knowledgeable and helpful.

Can't wait for the next stretch of good weather to finally be able to really enjoy the car!

OKXK I have scheduled my come to the house mechanic, to check out my, under the car oil leaks, in a few weeks. He will clean the areas, offer an opinion as to where the leaks are, then do a session of tighten down the bolts. I am going to use your posting here to tell him of the most likely areas for leaks. I think my differential is contributing a little, to the parking apron. Keep in touch!
