I’m sure I’ll get mixed responses, but I gotta know.
What’s the mileage upper limit on the 5.0 engine?
In your experience, what would be the high end you’d accept?
My specs:
Daily driver but I very rarely drive more than 20-30 miles a day.
It’s a jag, I expect $2-3k/yr in maint. I don’t want a bricked engine or tranny.
Kids are off to college, so I can finally have my 2-seater! I’d love to have it at least 5-10 years.
**Did I miss any important criteria?**
I've seen the engines go well over 200K. The concern isn't the engine, it's going to be the electrics which fail and may not be serviceable due to parts availability AND the parts attached to the engine like the cooling circuit which's considered a maintenance item about every 50K miles. If it's not taken care of the engine could fail.
Yep, as JA said above......
Take care of it and it'll go a looooonnnggggg way. If you buy one with high mileage, who the hell knows...
Exactly the risk I don’t want to take.
i mean a 2010 5.0 XKR vert for $15k!?
A complete steal, but 134k miles and no complete service history? Could turn into a $30k car.
Ya know, it IS a 15 year old car....... nearly anything that old would need SOME work.
Some things can be done yourself for not much, other things can cost $5000 (two new headlight housings) and new catalytic converters ($3000 each). That scenario could cost $16,000 alone.
BUT it could also be perfectly fine.
By all means, get a Pre-Purchase Inspection from someone reputable who knows what to look for. Verify who you're getting the car from. All kinds of normal stuff that any can purchase should include. There are some shady sellers out there, but also a few really good sellers.
I don't think the mileage matters depending on service history BUT you CAN find newer examples with much less mileage for the same price or less in a nationwide search.
Honestly, that price is okay with me. I bought my 2010 in 2013 for about $35k and 60,000 miles. Losing only $15k in 12 years isn't a bad thing, and mine's a convertible so add another $2k to the worth. Now I have 73,000 miles.

Most of the low mileage 2010-15 XKRs seem to be 26k and up.
Trying to get close to a wash when I sell my Genesis, so under $20k.
Im good with an XK, and XKR would just be icing so I got excited.
Coupes are going for $10-20K, add the "R" and it adds just a little more to the price, make it a convertible and the price jumps double the price of the coupes....
Im near enough on 144k miles on a 2012 XKR. My driving has picked up the last year and Ive driven. her near 24k in the last 12 months alone! My supercharged has about 110k miles and needs to be replaced and the old refurbished..... I also need to replace either a bad timing chain- very likely...or failing cam followers on my HPFP's... Are BOTH.
Work needs to be done but I am dedicated to putting the effort into getting her to 250k miles....which considering I bought her with 10k miles on her....mean I drove her to the MOON. That's the goal. Drive the BEST GT car EVER MADE to the Moon. I want it on my tombstone along with the car's VIN and a picture of me next to it.
Ross Barkman aka Ngarara never got his XKR75 special edition to 100k before passing. He was an amazing man and friend meet on these here boards. When I get up there I want to give him a high five
