Default MR12VOLT 2007 X150 pre-production testing unit

Hi all,

I am currently testing a pre-production unit of MR12VOLT for the X150 in the UK. This is 'meant' to solve some of the issues with the pre-2009 cars without the USB option fitted to the car. So far I am hitting a brick wall. There does not appear to be any trigger option for the unit. I have enabled USB but this doesn't trigger it.

I am looking at enabling USB. I have added the USB option via engineering mode in SDD however this doesn't show up in the menus.

I believe this is probably because it has the 2007 software on the HLDF and needs a later revision to recognise the enabled option?

@Sean W I know you have been in contact Liam in the UK. Could you advise the steps you took to enable MR12VOLT on your XK?

I know you used a 40 pin XF unit and then re-flashed it? I have a 40 pin XF unit on standby but want to progress with the 2007 XK unit I have as I have the 30 to 40 pin adaptor for the video board and have rebuilt the unit.

How do I go about re-flashing the HLDF in SSD. I have gone round in circles and cannot seem to find an option to update the HLDF and or related modules.

I know there was a service bulletin some years ago that referenced a 2009 HLDF firmware zip file to be used and plugged directly into the HLDF USB port, but this appears to be elusive on the net and multiple people have asked for it but as yet no download link can be found.

I am waiting for Mr12Volt staff to get back to me and Liam on Monday to see exactly how they envisaged this pre-production unit would work with a 2007 model car without factory USB installed.

Sorry I should have said I have enabled AUX which has not triggered it. I have added USB via the CCF editor in SSD but that hasn't shown anything in the menu options.

No offense to Liam, but I’ve talked to him on FB where he mostly posts, I even gave him a thread here that he asked for. He never replied to it.
He says it requires the full iPod upgrade, my guess is to charge more, but that’s presumptuous.
I can’t speak to the 2007 as the only I think Sean? Has done it and he replaced the head unit.
But several here have done the 08-09 12v upgrade and all it requires is enabling Portable Audio via SDD.

I'm guessing you have the 07 from your post. Which from my understanding doesn't have Portable Audio available, but does have the 30 pin which 12v comes with.

Hi yes 2007. I am not sure it is even possible to add the Portable Audio function to this model of HLDF. I have two XF SLDF units x1 with 30 pin without any aux/usb options enabled and a later unit with Portable audio and the USB option showing. With any of these units I need to re-program the unit to the XK MY 2009 model (last run before the 5.0's came out). This has the smaller Jag splash logo and has the portable audio options. Leaving the XF unit in with the Portable Audio without the software update will no doubt work with Mr12Volt but the Climate controls functions will not work via the touch screen.

I have tried SDD 130 which was stable but think this may be too early for the software update. I have tried SDD 138, this seems to keep requesting software update, I have changed the date/time and it works for a while then somewhere the date is being forced back to the present date and coming up with message errors regards to out of date software.

I have manually input the VIN of a 2009 XK which has a VIN in the right range for the software update but still no option appears to update this module. It's really frustrating and having given over my weekend to this I am ready to chuck in the towel.

Sean must have changed it. When I first saw the post, the link had an image, and Sean W’s name on it.

Yeah I killed the video. It's missing some important information regarding the ICM that I left out of the video. I may do another one.

For those of you who have the 07/08 models, keep in mind I've made several modifications to my car over the years. One of which was back in 2018 when I actually added USB/iPod to my car. It required a modification to the ICM, i later pulled the iPod/USB setup when i installed the Tesla style screen, which i removed to install Old jaguar's CarPlay/Android Auto set up. Then lastly did the M12V.

All good things but unless you're heavily into SDD, my recommendation for now is to go with Old Jaguars set up. The 07/08 you only need to activate AUX for those kits.

Here's what's needed for Mr 12 Volt:
4.2 Liter US 07/08 models Requires flashing ICM to 09 model year. Still need to update CCF to add iPod/USB via engineering mode.

US MY 09 - no issue IF you have the optional iPod/USB installed - use 30-40 pin ribbon cable when installing M12V video card and you're good to go. If you don't have iPod/USB, see the above note on 07/08 models

5.0 Liter models, no issue as I understand. Touchscreen is fine as is and all 5.0 liters have iPod/USB already installed.

Last thing I wanna do is go through this whole thing again, lol.
But now you have me confused… again.

Above you said 07/08.
After the bazillion threads we had going back in Aug/Sept, it was the 07 that needed a new/flashed head unit. The 08/09 could add the iPod ACM upgrade (not needed for Mr12v) which meant it had portable audio, so with the newly added 30 pin connector, could install Mr12V.

Of course this doesn’t help the person above as they have an 07, as does the OP.

I follow Liam’s work and experiments on FB.
And what they are doing for the 06 (Britain) is replacing/flashing the head unit for an extra £200 then installing Mr12V, basically what Sean did way back.

Liam repeatedly says 06/07 (which is 07/08 in the US), but from the many convos here, it seems the portable audio option (all that’s needed enabled) is on the 08 head units.

Liam is a salesman. Nothing more. He has no technical knowledge of Jaguars. I'm with @Cee Jay . But a newer model. No more explaining needed.

Yeah, I totally get it.
I use google maps a lot.
And love my Spotify where I make my own playlists.
To be able to skip songs from the steering wheel would be amazing.

Newer model? Not yet. Maybe down the road.

@Circumnavigator , JagAux.com (LINK) is the only Bluetooth adapter I know of that allows for the steering-wheel-button control you are wanting. Once AUX is enabled and the JagAux Bluetooth adapter installed (LINK), it automatically connects to your phone when you start the car and will allow you to stream Spotify, YouTube Music, Pandora, Deezer, etc. Then on the steering wheel, the Mute button will pause a track (instead of just muting) and the forward/backward wheel will make your streamed tracks go forward and backward. JagAux has recently been upgraded to have LDAC (Lossless Digital Audio Codec) so the audio is extremely high quality. This is what I'm using and I'm very happy with it.
