My son just bought a 2008 XK, it looks like a basic stereo system, it doesn’t have the aux input / usb / iPod connector but when I went to the infotainment system it did have an aux input showing. See photo.
does this mean the aux input is already enabled and I just need to buy one of the cables available?
AUX is definitely enabled to get that display. The question now becomes, was an ACM (Audio Connectivity Module) installed? Check both glove boxes for any USB, RCA, or iPod connectors.
If none, it’s likely the ACM was never installed, or was removed. In that case, I’d go with the ‘Old Jaguar’ dongle solution. Read this thread: Bluetooth dongle
Also, if you prefer not to have to bother with cables, just use your phone to see if there is a Bluetooth signal coming from the dashboard. If not, all you need to do is buy a £20 Volvo Bluetooth dongle and with a bit of soldering / scotchloking you'll have full Bluetooth audio dead cheap.

that’s great, thank you. I had been looking for the pin connections so I could DIY and save him some money.
I’ve done the same on my Mazda MX-6 so with the correct pin outs I can use a better Bluetooth device with more functionality.
Bikergonebald, I did a lot of research lately on adding a Bluetooth device to my 2009 XKR Portfolio lately and found two adapters available. I've already enabled AUX, ordered an adapter, and am now waiting for the adapter to arrive.
Key difference I could find in the two is that one says it does not provide for any steering-wheel controls; whereas, the other provides instructions for programming the steering-wheel controls in its installation instructions.
You could pull the infotainment unit out fairly easily to see if there's an adapter harness already connected. See "Step 4" in JagAux's installation instructions for the infotainment unit removal.

I'm not sure about a 2009 model as that is on the cusp between the two different audio systems but it's definitely the case that with the 2006, 07 and 08 models that the steering wheel volume controls always control the volume of the aux input and, as that is the input we're using for the Bluetooth dongle, the volume controls work by default without any programming.
I did the discount stereo BTHJAG98 as well. Does anyone else have an issue with alternator whine? I'm curious where the unit lives on everyones vehicle- I have mine routed just under the drivers side under the center console. Ive tried their noise filter, it didn't help. Only makes the whine when engine is on and revs are up. Power is coming from the rear fuse box AUX.
Other than this issue I'm very impressed with the unit. Although phone calls have been terrible.
I didn’t have any problem with alternator noise in the Jaguar but I used one in my Mazda MX-6 and I got lots and it took me a long time to fix. I tried powerline noise filters, ferrite cores, capacitors. They all made a difference but nothing fixed it.
the solution was the ground wires. Any circuit associated with the stereo needs to go to the same earth point on the body. In my Mazda it was more complex because as well as the head unit I had an amplifier so I made another harness.
in the Jaguar I grounded it directly in to the harness plug and socket at the back of the stereo.

Thanks for your reply Biker. I'll pull it apart and take a look at where the ground wire is grounding off to. Thanks!
