My First Jag 07 XK Adaptive Cruise questions

I am brand new here and just bought an 07 XK with 37k miles. LOVE the car but while driving it home from Dallas (780 mile trip) I had continual problems with the Adaptive Cruise Control. I would set the cruise and it would hold for 10 miles or so, then suddenly "pop" off. Dash would say "Driver Intervene" then "Radar Sensor Blocked". It would not allow me to reset, then maybe 30 minutes later would reset, then the same thing would happen again. I have searched this forum and found some references to this. Some say replacing the battery was a fix?? My battery is 1 yr old...an original Jag battery. I see a TSB listed on the forum for this exact problem, but cant tell what the fix is, or if there is one. My salesman at the Jag dealer says he talked to a tech, and long story short, there is no fix! Does anyone have experience with this. I guess I expect a high dollar car to have a working cruise control. Thanks in advance and I love this forum!

Welcome to the forum!

There is indeed a fix, although I don't think it is 100%. I've had mine looked at, the TSB performed and my problem is far less than it was when I bought the car. It now kicks off maybe once on a 700mile trip. Still annoying, but better.

"Driver Intervene" will come on if the speed is under like 25 mph. Was that the case for you?

Hrm. The only time mine says 'driver intervene' is if I put my foot on the pedal to accelerate past something. And the only time it's said 'sensor blocked' is when the nose was full of snow driving over a pass... I wasn't even using it at the time, but the warning came up. (Edit: I did have the collision warning system active, so i guess the radar's were active). Maybe there's something wrong with the sensor array?

FYI and not a fix.........I had this problem traveling from Ft Worth to Cotati. The sucker failed around Barstow Ca. Had the message about how the sensor was blocked. Bull The sensor is located at the c/l of the front of the hood and there was no blockage period.

It reengage twenty or so minutes later. Failed again twice later in the trip and would reengage after being off for approx 5-20 minutes.

This adaptive cruise control sucks. There should have been a backup mode if the radar sensor fails. NEVER buy adaptive cuise control if you can buy a standard cruise control package. How'd you like to drive 1700 miles give or take coming of a recently broken right ankle, without cruise control????

I'm guessing this problem is related to an overheated cruise control unit I did the drive straight thru in approx 26-27 hrs so it was engaged for a long time. Say NO to adaptive cruise control. It sucks in other areas also.

You shouldn't be driving on a recently broken ankle, anyway!!

Thanks for the tip, though. I didn't realize that there were some issues with the adaptive cruise control.

I'd have to believe there really isn't a big problem when viewed from the percentage of them in use vs the complaints (and they are few) on this forum.

I will totally agree with Hailers, (as will most of us with ACC) that an override should have been available to operate in a standard cruse configuration.
One would think this would have been a "no brainer" on Jags part, but I can understand them remaining on the cautious side. After all, once you begin to rely on it, I could see me tail-ending a car because I forgot it was in some "bypass" mode.

I have to admit I love my ACC and use it regularly despite the occasional error. It has done it twice since they "fixed it" back in Feb/Mar of this year, and I have logged close to 10K on the car since. I hope to have them look at it again and improve that percentage to zero.

Vince,

Same for me, and I've never had any ACC problems.

I too use it all the time on the highway and it's worked brilliant.

When I bought my XKR I was very pleased that it came WITHOUT ACC. Having read this thread and other comments around the Web on similar systems I would not buy a car with ACC that did not have an OFF switch for the adaptive part.

I had a problem during my cross-country drive. The software update fixed it.

P.S. I'm a big fan of ACC.

BART_REDLINE99 I shoulda lisened to you. I found the attached bulletin concerning this problem and it's like you say.

I came back from Ca yesterday and had this cruise control drop out on me again during the trip. About four times. It always recovered if left off for approx 15 minutes or so then re-engaged. I'm getting used to it now and don't panic like I did the first time or two.

Is it possible that these glitches could be traced to a failing battery? So many of the electrical gremlins seem to be caused by the batteries!

I'm not inclined to think so in this case.
With ACC, the vehicle is in full motion, at or near highway speeds. So the alternator is already generating ample voltage and current for the system before it is activated regardless of the battery.

The only problem I have with it is that sometimes when I want to accelerate a little more, nothing happens.. the cruise just stays on same speed.. either when using the kick-down or re-applying the additional throttle the speed increases...
