Default Naive question on verts

Having not seen an XKR in person yet other then a coupe I have a question on the verts. I see 2 rectangular cutouts on the deck behind the back seats. Are these the rear top locks or are they something else. If so what and how do they work. Thanks

I believe those are the pop outs for where the roll over bars emerge (Rollover Crash Protection) in the event the car goes oily side up.

Yes, this is a great set-up on the XKR vert. The hidden roll bars will be deployed automatically based on the telemetry installed if the car reaches a certain angle of degree on a roll. I believe it is a 20 degree pitch. This is quite impressive.

If you look at my signature and open the photos on my XKR, you will see the roll bars as the photos show the bars when the top is partially opened.

The roll bars are themselves are spring loaded with powerful springs. A small charge needs to detonate them (like an airbag) to release the retaining latch very quickly to deploy them. Then they spring open and lock. Also like an airbag, they are one-time use modules. The deployment sensors are elsewhere in the vehicle and not in the modules themselves.

Additionally, each roll bar has a glass fracturing pin on the top of the hoop to destroy the safety glass in the rear window of the convertible top when they are deployed and the top is up.
