Default New Daily Driver - 2010 XKR

Been on the forums for a few years now, mainly dealing with the long list of issues that can plague X300's, well id had my eye on an XK for a while last year, but then a week before I was going to look at a portfolio, I was told my job was under threat of redundancy. nearly 18 months later im in a great position with a new job, so I pulled the trigger on a lovely grey XKR last week!
The difference between this and a 4.0 XJ6 is unreal, although an unfair comparison. Ok so the infotainment system is subpar and the speaker system is average, but that really does become irrelevant against the power, ride quality and beauty of this machine. Only had one niggle, a ping/rattle when near full lock doing slow manoeuvres, diagnosed as a loose/rusty brake shield. Only trouble is the price of them is £250, with no aftermarkets available! So looks like it will get removed for the time being.

Hey at least your steering wheel's on the correct side!!

Surprised at the price you've been quoted so checked out that little known search engine called 'google'

So did I .................... but the steering on my XK is on the FRONT.

The pricing difference between FRONT and REAR is indefensible.

That price seems like its only defensible if this were some sort of money laundering scheme. SMH.

Hi MartyUK, if they can source at set of front ones at a fair price sure, it's for a 5ltr xkr though not a 4. 2, I imagine the sizes may be different thanks.

Alster (see I can read your name) mine is Mark, my handle on here is Marky (not Marty as I'm not American)

It was hard for me to tell from your picture TBH and you didn't post your engine size, please be a good chap and add your newest purchase to your signature strip so you don't have to repeat

I'll ask if I can remember...your name!

OK, so I asked and they advised that what happens is the rivets fail, they only get a 10% discount from dealers,so now refurb and re-rivet them, the cost 2 x hrs labour so £130+VAT, that's for a pair.

Or I get a 15% discount from which takes them down to £222.80 per side, if yours are different to my 2014 then natch this is wrong, but more than happy to buy and post to you, which could save you about £25

Thanks for asking Mark, unfortunately Im missing the one on the drivers side entirely and the passenger side one is a bit far gone for refurbishment. Im not willing to part with that much cash just for some brake shields, im saving for rear tyres instead, so I think Il leave it for now, and maybe keep an eye out for a breaker one on Ebay. Thanks again.

The Alcon upgrade doesn't/can't use shields so perhaps not so important.

Sorry Alex, at no stage in this thread previously did you actually state it was missing completely. You need to be a little more specific in future, this thread is reference for the IT crowd primarily but applies to anyone asking for advice in the virtual world:

Just need a quick confirmation, had my first no start in the Xkr today, all warning coming up in dash abs fault ped fault etc. Checked the battery posts and it looks like it's the original battery as its stamped 19-10?

So if its 10 years old hopefully a fresh battery is all it needs.

I don't know of anyone crazy enough to get a 'genuine Jaguar battery' installed when the OEM one runs out, so yes it's probably ten years old. That's forever in battery life.
You still should check the voltage, try to charge it for 24 hours with a REAL charger, then check voltages again, just to make sure.

FYIW, I just had a 7 year old battery replaced in my 2010 XK at the local Jag Dealer.
Old battery tested out at 60% fully charged, $225 for a new installed one.
I was not having any problems with the old one, but I just had the XK service done for the 10 year age vs. the 50K miles.
I plan on keeping the car, so I feel good maintenance is important.
