Question NEW and I apologize

I recently inherited a 2008 XKR with a B vin (someone might know why that is important-I do not). My late uncle always had high end sports cars and he was quite the catch I guess, sorry, he just passed but I have inherited his little, older, higher mileage sports queen. Unfortunately, it was so well loved it has almost 85k miles on it and I need to get it home about 600 miles. The last milestone service was at 40k, there have been regular oil changes but I cannot tell (he was an engineer that built his own rockets, mind you) whether it is safely drivable for that distance at these miles (no milestone service since 40k) and it will have sat a few weeks without start (I have learned there are potential electronic issues when they aren't on a trickle or started every few days). Basically, I am an idiot (I have done my own exhaust manifolds and 16 darned sparkplugs in a 2015 Dodge Ram, just new to Jag). So, I would like to carry on my uncles legacy, enjoy some time with my first high-end sporty, and see how far I can go. Please advise best forums, any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I shall have pics soon! She is a silver color with black interior, louvered hood, R badge, swirled wood accents. Thank you for any response.

Change the oil regardless of anything else. Make sure the battery is FULLY charged and that the alternator works okay. The battery MUST have 12.6 volts or more unmolested for at least six hours.
Also, the rear window in the convertible top looks like it may be pulling away from the fabric. It may leak if you drive in wet weather. This is somewhat common and a 'temporary' DIY repair is in this forum. Use the "Search" function.
At first opportunity, bring the car to someone to do a full inspection so you don't get blindsided later, ALL the fluids should be changed, all SEVEN of them, including brakes.
Other than that, these cars are fantastic when treated properly. Have fun!

Might be worth looking for paperwork (invoices etc) to show what else than oil changes it had and when. Otherwise, yes change fluids. Sorry to hear your uncle passed but if he did keep up with fluids it'll probably be fine - with an oil change. Oh, and fuel pumps do not like being unused so could pose an issue. Don't trust the battery - do follow the advice above.

Welcome to the club!

As a newish owner myself, everything said above applies.
You won’t be wasting any money doing the fluids. Yourself or a few hundred bucks at a euro shop. They Can do what’s called a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) for a hundred or so while it is there.
Can all be handled remote as I did with mine before I bought it 4 states away.

If you really want to keep the car and continue the legacy, I’d be prepared for about $3-4k investment over a couple years for tip top shape and many years to come of enjoyment.
It will really depend on the outcome of the inspection of course.

That all said, let’s be honest. Even $3-4k total spent for one of these amazing cars is an incredible price.

I hope you are able to enjoy it for years to come!
