Default New Member, need help

I am new to this forum so if I missed anything in terms of introducing myself please let me know. I am the happy new owner of a 2007 XK convertible. I've been working hard getting her where she needs to be as previous owner clearly did not care for her very well. My problem is that the battery had low voltage causing the electronic gremlins I read so much about. I've purchased a new battery and went through the normal procedures in resetting various parts of car. Then we get to convertible top. UGH! Now let me start by saying the top was open when I first diagnosed this battery issue. When I switched out the old better for the new battery I manually put the top back up as it was stuck in down position. Now the rear windows are still down and no matter what I do i can't get the rear windows up . So after resetting front windows, parking brake, and radio I tried to reset top manually. I pull the cord to open the tonneau cover and nothing. It appears to have give in it but not as if it is broken but as if it never fully went back into close position. So now I can't reset cover according to direction in the manual.

What am I missing? It's driving me mad! Fortunately this is a second car so I've aired on the side of safety and left her in the garage. Is is possible that when I manually closed the top I didn't crank the lever that vloses the roof enough to pull that cord in place? When I cranked it the cover closed with a tight seal. And before I put battery in I had closed roof manually and did not get any messages saying latch not closed. Then after battery change is when that message came on. I figured that was part of all the messages that come up after a battery change.

Can anyone help me? I live over an hour away from dealer and really want to drive my new beauty.

Welcome to the forum Nayzam,

I've copied this from your Intro to X150 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

If you were closer to Boston, you could bring the car to Samuels Jaguar Motors; they seen just about it all. You may want to just call ask for Elliston. Tell him I sent you and he should have some tips if no one here has any...

Thanks! I may do that. The closest dealer is in Albany and after my phone call to their service department asking if I could have them go through the car, they didn't seem to be very accommodating. It is used and just want to have it looked over to avoid any issues in the future. I may just make the trip to Boston. Thanks for the info.

I am surprised as I selected the Albany Jag dealer as my service group. They have bent over backwards to accommodate me. I work with Chris the service advisory and he has been very helpful. Who did you speak to.

I recently had issues with my '07 top.

Your rear windows are down because the car thinks/knows the top is not properly secured in the down position.

To double check you said that you have reset the front windows for both the up and down positions correct? That is VERY important/critical. very strange that you say that you were able to reset the front windows but the rears have stayed down with the top up... correct me if I'm wrong there.

Second if that does not fix it then try the manual top reset by closing it (you may need to use the hex allen to fully close it then again try to close it and fully latch). With the top fully closed let us know if you get the "latch not fully closed" warning or if it is fine. Try to push the switch so that it would be closing see if that raises your rear windows. I'd then try to open it with the switch to see what you get. You may need to retract it manually and unless it fully retracts the rear windows will not raise. In the fully open position with the tonneau closed try the switch once again and let us know what happens.

I just had something similar happen it required me going to a Jag specialist locally here for them to run the DTC codes to find a bolt in my door had backed out stopping the drivers window from going down. The bolt needed to be put back into proper position then the codes erased no parts needed. The labor rate was $295 for the 3-4 hours they worked on it now things are perfect again.

The Forum member with the most knowledge about the convertible top is WhiteXKR, a.k.a.Steve, the Jag Wrangler. He invented the amazing key fob remote control DIY kit for the top, and may be able to help you. Hopefully, he will see this thread or you can send him a PM.

I'm not sure if I ever got his name. I did schedule an appointment to send her over for them to give her a once over. When I called for that service they were very nice. Hey, people have bad days sometimes, we all do. Didn't want to base entire service department on one person so I figured I'd give it a shot. Hopefully I have same experience you have. I'm sure I will.

I just wanted to give a quick update re: service at Albany location. My husband and I called a few locations and must have gotten the albany location confused with another because the service there was top notch! Chris was very helpful, and just an all around nice guy. They went through my car knowing she was a recent purchase but was used. They were very professional and fair. So happy to have found them! Just wanted to let you know that you were indeed right in your response of being surprised of a bad review regarding their service.
