Newer year tail lights on a 09 XK
#2
XKGuy,
I see you are a newbie and might not know how to search this forum. There has been a lot of discussion about upgrading to the 2010+ LED tail lights. Simply put, you will get a bulb out warning in the Message Center Display Panel since LEDs draw less current than incandescent bulbs, unless you modify the wiring harness to remedy that problem. That has been done with varying degrees of success.
See these threads on this forum:

And this thread on the UK forum:
LED Rear Lights
I plan to buy the Adamesh kit when they eliminate all the bugs. Here's the link: jaguar accessories | jaguar xk and xkr | led rear lights

Wait a minute how can a "senior member" be considered a newbie.
That's just plain search lazy... tsk tsk.
I actually went with the Hermann Kit. The build quality with the heat protected resistors is OUTSTANDING! ...but their support at fixing the bulb out message I was still getting was useless or plain dismissive. I also heard the classic "we've sold 65161198541 units with no problems". They actually had the nerve to ask me how I fixed it when others complained about their bulb out warnings as well.
Then again I must say bravo to them for the build, they incorporated everything in such a way you'd swear it was OEM by design. I must give them huge credit for that.

Mike,
See XKGuy's join date - January 2013. Doesn't that make him a newbie?
At first glance that does appear to be inconsistent with his Senior Member status. However, I believe he achieved that status as a result of his 123 posts.

No offense intended my friend, to tease yes, but not offend . My point was to point out the Hermann option. Seems a lot of guys on the other Jag Forum Stuart was kind enough to point out are changing the Adamesh Kits from bulbs to resistors anyway.
If you do get the Hermann kit and still get a bulb out warning and if your good with a solder iron, I will help you fix it. Some guys have gotten it without problems but in my case the left blinker set off the bulb warning. A little soldering and thanks to Newark, problem solved.
PS I agree, Jan 2013 join date does qualify a newbie, 123 posts qualifies a man possessed, like the rest of us %-) By the way love the Vapour Grey!
