So among the laundry list of issues being addressed on my car is an adaptive headlight fault. Sadly, the "give them a whack" technique, which had served me well, no longer works-- and the drivers-side headlight is pointing pretty low. The word from the shop is that both lamp assemblies would be replaced. Then today, this from the dealer:
"We are still waiting for one of the headlamps. My parts guys have been searching far and wide for one from another dealer, but we have not had any luck yet."
Apparently, it's the "adaptive" part that's the real killer.
Hmmm.... hope this isn't a canary in the coal mine in terms of parts availability. (And don't get in a fender-bender!)
There's this one, in the UK, but it's not Adaptive. (Also, in my brief search it seems that the left-hand light (driver's side in the US, which is the one that's worse on my car) is pretty much impossible to come by....
I have a set of two AFS lamps (from MY2010 XKR). I'm in Poland. In case you are interested- let me know.
Ps. Ending a full facelift conversion, that's why they are available. Lamps are in a used, very good condition. I would be expecting roughly around 600USD per side. They worked/works very well. They have the best bulbs - Osram Xernac Laser on them (value of 100usd+).
As of right now, this work is covered under warranty, so the more that can be done on their dime, the better.
CeeJay, I did read that thread. If push comes to shove I may try to follow that advice, but it I suspect it may be outside my competence level. I believe I read that soldering would be involved.
Try Welsh Enterprises that's where I got my 2007 set. New or used available. If your lucky maybe some New Old Stock available. One of mine was at $1,700.00, the other was not $3,000.00 new.
I also fixed mine when my car's left headlight was a lazy eye. It was that the wiring insulation was just falling off due to heat breakdown. I used my trusty weller portasol (like this:
It's been a year since and no issues. If you can clean them up cosmetically, there is no way I'd pay $500-3000 a light for another unit. If it's used, it likely has the same thermal breakdown of the insulation that caused mine to act up; so fixing is the way to go. Mine polished up beautifully and have paint protection film on them now.
In addition to real faults in the headlights themselves and burned out wiring, the other two things to check are the earth connections and the Adaptive Headlight control Module AFS HCM. It is sometimes this that has failed cause the lights to play up. Worth checking.
After three weeks and much searching, the service dept was able to source the left (drivers) side headlamp assembly, so both have been replaced!
Funny: I thought my headlights were in great shape cosmetically until I saw these new ones. Sa-weet!
I was told they don't think there's another new one for the left side anywhere in the US.
(And the cost listed was $3250 EACH. Thank god for the warranty....)
Just as a kind reminder- have a pair of AFS from my car in a perfect working condition (and good cosmetic shape). Did a swap for facelift and have plenty of spare parts. Happy to sell it. The only drawback- I'm in Poland, but can help organizing shipping to US/Canada.

For sure - if this hadn't worked out you would have been my next call! (I would have had to DIY it, as the warranty company wouldn't cover repair/replace with parts that aren't new OEM.)
Have you listed them on the Marketplace? Probably not a ton of demand but I can now say that the adaptive lights are a rare item indeed, especially on the left.
What kind of warranty do you have? Who is it with and what is the cost? Your car is over 10 years old.
The company is Fidelity; someone else here checked and they only offer warranties through Jaguar dealerships at the time of sale, or something like that.
It's a long (and good) saga, detailed on some warranty thread. As this will assumedly be my last use of the warranty, I may do one summary post in defense of add-on warranties, at least in my case (FYI, I think buying at Carmax is worth it for the warranty alone, if that's a route you want to go, since it allows you to take the car anywhere you want, and they're pretty generous with payouts.)
Anyway, they've now paid out about $40,000. I've attached the summary page of this visit. (You'll notice I paid in about $1,000 out of the total of $10,265. Only $75 of that was warranty work; the rest was a belt change, reflashing and updating two modules, and a power steering fluid flush and change. Yeah, I coulda done the power steering fluid myself but it was there and that's good for a few more years so I thought what the hell.)
The warranty was the most coverage allowed in terms of what they'd pay for, and it was 6 years/100,000 miles. I'm gonna hit the 6 year mark in about a week or so.
One more warranty thing:
I brought the car in for two issues: a non-functioning touchscreen (they did a module reflash and software update, not covered), the adaptive headlight fail (covered)... and anything else they thought needed doing, which was the serpentine belt change and the power steering flush.
But they always fine-tooth-comb the car for anything else, since my deductible is per visit and not per item. This time, in addition to the headlamps, they replaced the vacuum pump (leaking oil?), and two bushings. As of now, all of the suspension bushings on the car (which in some cases included the control arms) have been replaced under the warranty.

Have you got photos of the conversion I absolutely love the look of the face lift (2012+) you should start your own thread
