Default No start with small wife in drivers seat

Then I get in with my much wider load and it starts. Not a one time thing. What gives.

It is probably your wife's technique rather than anything to do with the seat as you can start the car by just leaning into the car, putting a foot on the brake pedal and pressing the start button.

The brake pedal does also sometimes need to be pushed extra hard if the system has lost pressure.

Could be her technique although the usual notice does not show. Thanks, I will tell her to press with more force.

Try pressing (and holding down, of course) the start button first, then press the brake pedal.
That is the opposite of what the procedure in the driver’s manual states, but minimizes the problem of the required microswitch by the brake pedal not being engaged if the brake gets “pumped up” before pressing the start button.

I have found that pressing the start button first (credit where due, btw, to the many other forum participants that have suggested this procedure) solves many issues...
besides the XK's aversion to small wives...
