Default Now i cant get out of park and wont start

Im booked in next tue for the air cond , and now stuck in park and wont start. 2008 XKR 15k ml.
I started the car to move it out of the shop , started right away , halfway out I realised I had not disconected my charger, stopped and turned the engine off put it in park did not apply the e . brake . Got back in and it wont start or turn over, the foot brake is not not showing ( press on ) and when I press the start button nothing , the dash goes threw all the computer faults and flashes and dings . the e .brake is working , If I grab a wheel I can rock the car back and forth with the e . brake off, and cant with it on . It is also stuck in park. if I jack up the rear wheels the front brakes appear to go on ,so I cant move it anyway . so it stuck half in & out of the shop. The key fob remotes are working . Hope someone can help

Try putting your foot on the brake very hard and holding for 30 secs. or so

I seem to remember this issue on here before.

Get in the car, do not touch the brake. Hold the start button down, when you hear the chime, depress the brake pedal harder and harder until it starts.

Is it possible that its your battery? Even though you may have had it connected, it may not able to accept a charge. It may have only had enough juice to start the car once.

Over the years, I've seen this come up but when it does, the dead battery siphons off available current from the jumper battery so you cannot start the car with the dead battery in the circuit.

Had the same issue last week. Wouldn't start or turn over. Wouldn't accept a jump. Put in a new battery, nothing! Couldn't get it out of gear but opened the emergency release in the center console so we could tow the car to my mechanic. It turned out to be a burned out starter. $350. later, the world is good again.

Michael has about the only answer. The 4.2 cars don't have an emergency park release like the 5.0's, the only way to get it out of park is electrically.

Its much harder to get the trim off than wheeling the car in the garage with the help of 4 dollies. All 4 wheels. No need to get it out of park.
Unless you have to go on an incline to get in your garage. Then this is not a safe option.

It will do you no good to get the car out of park by shifting the lever- no matter how you do it.
The problem is that there is an electronic handbrake. That will only release in the presence of voltage. Which is why I feel your problem is a new battery and or reset.

Look in the owners manual how to override the electronic handbrake in case of emergency. I have a slightly different car, otherwise I would do it for you.

The problem is not the emg. brake that is released. it is the stuck in park which I cannot release, and engine will not turn over. The battery is showing fully charged and good. by reset, do you mean to disconnect and recon the battery.

Its is the ELECTRONIC handbrake that wont let you go further. Its not something that can be overridden by you.

Yes try another battery.

Did you read the handbook on emergency brake release procedures? it may have something in there.

You must understand that you must try another battery because you may have damaged your charger while starting it still connected, which will subsequently give you bad reading.

In any case disconnect the battery completely and try with another or take it and have it tested at a shop.

Yes ignore the fact that you cannot get it out of park, that is part and parcel of the lockdown.
