Default The Official XK Modification Thread

Lets start a threat regarding the perfect modifications. Mods that have been done and worked satisfactorily. For example. A list or link for a specific type of Tire, Ceramic Brake, Turner company etc. We have all talked about these things before but lets bring it TOGETHER in one large thread. What does everybody say?!?!

Loth

Currently - I have an stock XKR with a regular active exhaust. Id like a link to a company or parts place by which I could purchase the X-Pipe to replace the 2 front silencers. I want it to have more grunt. Any suggestions?

As mentioned in a previous thread, I had one custom made, very easy to do at a muffler shop and the center section is bolt on just like the rear box.

Or you can buy one such as this from Fabspeed

I just did this, I got the Spires Performance "Stage 1" exhaust on my 4.2. Not really any noticeable performance increase but the extra noise is most welcome (to me, not the neighbours)...

MaximA, did you notice much difference with the Yellow stuff brake pads? Did you go with the drilled rotors?

Default XK Mods As Well?

It seems like 99% of the performance modification posts and threads that I've read pertain specifically to the XKR and are not applicable to the XK. As a proud and happy owner of a 2009 XK Coupe, I'd love to hear about performance modifications that can be done to an XK as well. Thanks!

I didn't go with the drilled rotors as I was not sure if they were drilled after they were cast or before. The rotors that are drilled after being cast tend to crack so I'll probably get the spires slotted rotors as their products seem to be of a very high quality and well thought out.

The YellowStuff pads work great so far, they work well when cold and have a better pedal feel when hot. No noise so far and less dust than the factory pads, as those had my wheels covered just driving to work. One thing I noticed is the car will hit ABS much sooner with these pads then stock so they are very grippy.

Most of the XK mods will be the same, they have the same parts available but obviously HP figure will be a bit different.

I just pulled all of the burl out of mine, replacing the center consoles with engine spun aluminum and the doors, airbag cover & cluster with custom piano lacquer. Do you want to sell yours in case I change mine again later?

The Black piano finish I'm getting is just solid black like my center console it looks great. I'll holding to my pieces as I'm keeping all the original parts and I'll probably want a change after a few months.

Jahummer, tell me more about the custom piano lacquer. I have already replaced the center stack with Engine Spun and have been planning to buy piano for the rest but haven't gotten around to it.

Who did the painting, how much and how does it look?

For those XKR owners who are doing these mod's, it would be great to see some photos of your work.

Reading about them is one thing, but seeing some nice photos would even be nicer.

Get out your digital cameras, gentlemen.

I had a shop here do it for $250, 4 pieces. They do work that is higher end than say West Coast Customs, mostly classic American muscle custom car builds from the ground up. They also do a large volume of small custom jobs such as water transfer printing.

I had the red, green & silver R logo embedded under the layers of clear on the bottom left corner of the passenger air bag cover and silver R logos on each of the door switch packs.

I will post pics of everything when it is done, including the custom paddle shifters, promise.
