Default Oil Change on XK! Thanks!

HI all, I did my first (virgin) oil change on my XK. Took all of 12 min. (a bit slow the first time) with my fluid extractor. Hook it up, pump it out, change filter, pour it in. Easiest oil change I ever did! Thanks to the forum for the how-to info .

You certainly do save lots of money. Congrats on performing the job. Clean up can be a bit of a chore. Cleaning everything and then proper disposal of oil can take even more time. Certainly good to see others who wrench on their cars.

You beat me. ........ I'm timing my oil change with a calendar instead of a stopwatch.

Although I've done hundreds of Jaguar oil changes, I started the first one on my newly acquired Porsche Cayenne on Tuesday.

I'm old fashioned and drain the oil though the drain plug instead of using an extractor. Undertray removed, oil out, filter changed and ready to replace the drain plug. Parts supplier had sent the wrong crush washer! Not being familiar with the marque or model, I didn't realise this until it came time to refit the drain plug.

TWO DAYS later, the vehicle is still up on stands and I'm waiting for the right crush washer to arrive in the post.

That is encouraging! What extractor did you use?

Mityvac MV7400 Fluid Extractor. About $100. You will also need a filter wrench:

$21 from amazon. Castrol platinum 5W-20. Takes 7.5 quarts so three 5 quart bottles will last 2 changes! So first change was ab out $200, but cheaper than the $250 the *********** wants. Next change will be $28 for the oil and $5 for filter.

Also: Just got the bluetooth dongle so I can now stream music from my iphone! Rock On Brothers!!!

As you point out $200 sounds like an expensive oil change, until you realize that is mostly a one-time investment - and still less than the JLR sales and service shiny building charges!

As for the Bovee... I just saw a 2012 Aston Martin Vantage S on Bring A Trailer, and he has one connected in his console too. None of the British brands catch-onto basic technology quickly! I need to quit dragging my feet and get my Bovee - there is already an adapter cable that came with the car that I verified works with my wife's old ipod.
