Hi all, i know this has been covered in previous thread, but just want to ask if anyone has purchased a decent (cheap?) oil extraction pump. I am ok with a hand pump or electric.
Also what is the latest and greatest oil that meets the spec for a 2011 5.0 N/A engine? Thanks!

Finally, does anybody remember the Service Rest Procedure... Up, Down, Left, Right, A,B,A,B method?

 

I quite like the Motive products I use. Around $100 on Amazon. As for oil, Pennzoil Ultra Platinum synthetic’s likely better than the OEM Castrol and only costs about $20 for a 5 quart jug. And for filters, I’m going to say stick with genuine. I’d been using another brand for a few years for about half the cost (side by side looked identical to genuine) and then the last 4 filters all had manufacturing defects so I went back to JLR.

 

'Service Required' Message appears on dashboard (2009+ models in the UK, 2010+ models
elsewhere):

-This service reminder message sometimes appears as a result of the battery disconnect. Reset
it as follows:

1. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch (before the ignition is on).
2. Press the start button without applying the foot brake (do not start the engine)
3. Release the rear fog lamp switch (1sec)
4. Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch (within 1sec).
5. Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch. (within 1sec)
6. Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.
7. The message center should display "resetting service mode" and then "service mode reset"
8. Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off.

Do the above like a song, you have to keep the beat. About one second between actions, as accurately as possible.

I got one on ebay for $50 bucks. Not cheap - but needed a 7 qt size.

 

What I bought. Not the cheapest, but I can testify to quality and ease of use. Seems like there are some cheaper ones that share the same design.
Whatever you pick, two things: make sure it's got the capacity, and that it's translucent so you can see how much oil you've extracted.
(And remember the tube will get HOT while you're extracting the oil, even if you've waited a bit...)

 

That’s what I’ve got (my automatic pneumatic brake bleeder’s Motiv, the fluid transfer tank is Mityvac) brake used by professional mechanics in main dealers. The cheaper ones I’ve looked at for half the price appear to be about one fourth the quality and lack some of the features the Mityvac offers.

 

I think the procedure is missing a step: whilst blinking your left eye, rub your right side of your upper lip with your tongue.

Reason being, I like the control, and no need to be connected to power… especially when at the boat.

That's the one I have as well. Works great.

 

I purchased a cheap version : I think the big difference to the more expensive versions is that you can't reverse the pump, and the oil needs to be poured out.

I'll post a follow up on how good/bad it works.
