Out for a drive. Things got HOT!
KBB is the worst place to look for car values, look at what is for sale around you. I just bought a 11 XK and have not seen an XKR around your year under $30k and I live in O-town. Also, you are looking at trade in value and not retail.
Wish you luck in getting it repaired.
Always a good idea to keep listings and sold vehicles that are similar, in a file. Just like maintenance records. As mentioned, KBB is not a good source for retail value. NADA guide is better, but nothing is better than auction and private. Mods and upgrades should be factored and may increase the value, as well.
This isbfrom experience with an insurance company wanting to lowball and total a past BMW. They wanted to value it at $2500 to categorize it as a total. Because I was able to show similar vehicles selling in the $8k range, they agreed to fix, wait for it.....the lower valance and bumper.
This was the other/guilty parties Ins Co, for reference.
Hope this story ads value and GL with the journey.

Your insurance company will figure this out, but any damage to the engine is way weird. If the starter engaged, it may need replacement, but that's all I can imagine other than the external components. I was an insurance adjuster as a kid, and did many an engine fire. A specialty facility is usually the way to go on these things. As far as it being a total, it's just an equation as others have mentioned. Good luck.
While insurance companies use proprietary algorithms to determine the cars value and then whether it meets the requirements for repair, the only thing a consumer can use to even begin a discussion is KBB or NADA. KBB actually uses prices of sold cars in the entered zip code.
