Default Outlet Pipe - Water Pump '13 XKR

I had to take my 2013 XKR to the shop this week due to a coolant leak. They informed me that the outlet pipe on the water pump was cracked and would need replacing. They are also replacing the water pump (which my warranty covered), but they warranty did not cover the outlet pipe. I was quoted $1,205 for the labor and material to have this replaced, which seems high in my opinion. They told me it had to be done so they wasn't much choice, but that I wouldn't have to worry about this issue in the future because the design of the pump/pipes has been fixed.

Has anyone else had this done and know the cost? I want to make sure I'm not getting robbed here..

I appreciate the help!

When they say "outlet pipe on the waterpump" do they mean there is a crack in the waterpump or in a pipe that attaches to the water pump. Can they show you the problem area. Also it sounds like they are banging you for the labor to replace the pump. Ask them for a price to just replace the pipe without replacing the pump. And last where ever you get the job done ask for the bad parts to be returned to you before they start the work. Last get a second opinion. What are the labor hrs and how much for the parts.

You have to remove the water pump to replace the outlet pipe so I doubt the labor will change if you didn't replace the pump. Replacing the water pump is just good measure while you have it off unless you have real low miles (the older part number pump should be replaced anyway if you have it off...). That price sounds about right for a dealer but high for an indy. My dealer wanted $1400.

They said the crack was in the outlet pipe. The water pump didn't have to be replaced, but they got approval to do so from the warranty company since a better pump has been released and the bearing was starting to become loose.

They quoted the parts for the pipe and o-rings at $157. He said there is 5.7hrs of labor involved since the supercharger has to be removed in order to access the pipe. Apparently this wouldn't have to be done if only the water pump was replaced and that the warranty company is paying over 6 hours of labor for the water pump and an a/c fix. I can't believe the warranty wouldn't cover the pipe...doesn't seem like a maintenance issue to me

Do I understand this correctly, they are going to charge the warranty company parts and labor to replace the pump, but then they are going to charge you again for the labor (at the full rate) to replace the pipe?
I've got to get in on that business model!

That was my thought exactly, but when I questioned them on this they said the labor process is totally different. Apparently the supercharger doesn't need to come off with the fuel pump replacement, but it does when replacing the outlet pipe because that is behind the supercharger...

Wether that is the truth or not I'm not sure.

This sounds like an excellent time to get a second opinion.

GET A SECOND OPINION FAST, I'm doing this exact job right (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ssover-187802/) now and can tell you the supercharger DOES NOT need to come off to do the pipe on the back of the water pump, And the service manual does not instruct that the supercharger come off for the XF.
