UK spec 2007 XK 4.2, I had the check pedestrian protection system warning for a couple of months. I changed the impact sensor (most common problem ) which didn’t resolve it, so I bought a code reader and identified the problem was the RH bonnet latch actuator.
(My understanding is that when a pedestrian impact is detected the RH and LH actuators release the bonnet catches before the airbag is deployed which raises the bonnets by 5 inches preventing the pedestrian impacting the solid engine block)
The Part number for the actuator is C2P24570G
Cost £136.44 including delivery and VAT from www.britishparts.co.uk
Recommend you get the error codes read before purchasing to be sure of the fault, it could also be an impact sensor.
You will need a 10mm socket to remove the two bolts on the bonnet latch and a T30 (I think) torx driver to remove the two torx bolts for the actuator. The cable connector is a bit fiddly
The whole job takes about 30 minutes once you have figured it out.
After two months seeing that warning light, it’s great to see the clock again!

Reason: Add fault code images
A big thanks for your post. I was a little lost on where to look. My fault was left side, so I swapped with right side and fault transferred. I have since ordered a new one.
