Hello fellow enthusiasts.. .Im curious if anyone has any information relative to the 4.2 XKR engine prior to 2010 and the 5.0.. specifically, I'm either selling or trading in my 03 XK8 for an XKR. I want the fastest car but would prefer to save a few thousand by getting an 09. Is there a way to upgrade the performance of the 09 to either get close to or surpass the 5.0 performance?

Not a chance 5l SC is king.


If you can afford a 2010+ 5l SC the extra money is well worth it. Many members have commented on the quantum improvements in the 2010+ model. All the way around a better built car.

 

You could Get a Tune and new Pully which is about 65hp and then change the exhaust which will add about 15-18hp So from a 07-09 XKR with 420hp you will be up to 500hp +/- about 5 or 10hp

But a tune, Pully, and new exhaust will run you about $3000 so you might be able to add just a little more and get the 2010 model when you consider that.

 

Plus the 5.0 XKR models have other goodies, like fully variable dampers rather than 2-setting ones and an electronically controlled diff, as well as the Dynamic Mode button that changes the suspension & other settings when you want to go for it.

 

You can boost a 4.2 to 5.0 or better performance but not at the cost difference between a 4.2 and a 5.0. Get a 5.0 if you want more power mod that
