Hey Mates,
Was detailing me engine bay the morning. Got it looking very clean. However, the plastic, or whatever it is that surrounds/covers the wiper area at the base of the windscreen, looks kinda of grey-ish black now.
Would like to make it blacker? Would that stuff used on rubber bumpers work, you think?

 

I use Meguars (sp?) trim detailer on anything plastic or rubber. Works very nicely.

Well... they are using an XK in the video. I tried a few different products that promised similar results and only last a few days. Best advice is to remove the trim and have it dyed back to black. I was quite annoyed with the same trim piece fading as it did and put 100's of hours in to washing and waxing the XK.

 

I second the recommendation for AutoGlym Bumper and Trim Gel: this is not a dye: it is a thick green liquid which restores the deep black colour on any of the plastic components, and yes, on the wiper arms as well, and with a soft toothbrush will remove wax stains in the black areas. It is a superb product and once applied, lasts for months - far better than any other "renewal" agent I have used on my concours cars (and I have used everything...).
There is no need whatever to remove the trim and have it dyed.

 

Thanks guys. I'm going to look for the AutoGlym locally. My Aussie mate sent me a YouTube Vid demonstrating a professional (?) product called "Solution Finish Black Plastic & Vinyl" restore.

 

I use turtlewax tire foam. Comes in a spray can, spray it on and walk away. Works wonders.

 

I applied a product called Solution Finish The Car Enthusiast's Best Friend to that same area eight months ago. Came out great and still looks like I applied it yesterday.
