I finally found the perfect (for me) XK after an exhaustive search. She is a 2008 Ebony, with Charcoal interior. The car is equipped with the Aluminum Luxury Package, Premium Sound, Advanced Technology Package and 20" Senta Wheels. There is 29K on the odometer and it is the Select Edition from the dealer.

Up to this point I have not really drove an XK for any distance and now that I have, why didn't I do this sooner!?

Happy to be a proud member of the Club

Default Welcome to the family...

As a fellow owner of an 2008 XK, please allow me to provide a just bit of helpful advice.

As you have no doubt already realized, you are now piloting one of the sexiest cars on the planet. Look forward to the envious comments, and outright jealous stares. They will be coming your way. The car is a rush to drive, a beauty to gaze at, and a definate check mark on anyone's "bucket list"

Hey, one helpful hint. These cars are meant to be driven, so drive the beast. ENJOY YOUR CAR. To many of these are garage queens (e.g., 29,000 on the clock of an 08). I decided that when I bought mine, I was going to enjoy it, drive it every chance I got, and to hell with the odometer. I now have 40,000 miles on the clock and if I should add 100,000 more I will NOT regret one single mile.

Good luck and I wish you many miles of open road.

As an other owner of an '08 XK, I congrats on the purchase of this fine car. I also got mine as a select edition with something like 21K miles. I drive it mostly for distances between home and occasional work 150 miles each way. It has mostly been trouble free, save a CIL come on and cleared by the dealer once and an annoying drone that now I have at freeway speeds since they installed the exhaust brackets to eliminate a different drone at lower RPMs. This drone only becomes noticeable after driving 25+ miles when, apparently, the exhaust gets heat soaked, or something like that.

I need to solve that slight drone as I spend most of my driving time at the new droning RPM range (about 1900 RPM and up). Hopefully it is going to be something simple as moving/thightening those installed braces. Other than that I really like the car.

Good luck with the ownership,

Albert

Default One month on my own XK experience

As the new owner of a 2007 XK CPO and Select Edition with only 7k miles I thought I'd share with you my first month's experience. As was mentioned in the thread many XK's are kept as garage queens and this was one - hadn't even been out in the rain. My gain their loss. This will be my daily driver except for those nasty winter days here in the NE.

First of all Stillwaters' spot on when he says '

Just today, filling up at Costco, I had 2 comments - 'what a beautiful car' - I even got a passenger in a Mercedes SLK applaude as they passed me on the freeway!!!

Anyhow here's what's happened in the first month.

1. Changed the rubber to Sumitomo HTR Z 111's - very pleased- quieter and smoother than the Dunlops, traction good in both the wet and dry and $700 from tire rack. I refuse to pay close to $2k for Michelins
2. Unfortunately the tire fitter ripped the rubber seal on the passenger door sill so had to get that replaced.
3. Noticed the same vibration/drone at 1250rpm as is mentioned in a number of threads and had that rectified free of charge by my dealer yesterday. Problem solved. However it took some time to get approved. Eventually Jaguar USA covered it as goodwill to a new customer!!!. You have to push on this one but the dealers know about it but play dumb at first. The cost for the job would have been $600!!
4. Adjusted the drivers side headlight slightly. Easy 2 minute job.
5. Getting 19MPG of mixed city/freeway
6. Highly recommend Zaino's leather cleaner and conditioner. That stuff really works and the lingering leather smell in the car is as near to a new car smell as you can get.
7. CD playback is great - FM reception - so so. If you have premium sound make sure you activate the surround feature - unless you want simple stereo. It took me a week to realize it was there as it's on the second screen of audio settings. I've read threads were folks complain of the rear speakers being dull. Well crank up the surround setting and hey presto they come to life.
8. I would prefer that when you go into manual mode it stays in the gear you select. If you dont go up or down the box within about 15 seconds it reverts to normal driving mode. Is there a setting for this???
9. About 5 people have told me that I have one reversing light out. Also it almost failed the Maryland safety inspection as the dumb mechanic said he had to fail it due to one of the reversing lights being out. I had to get the Jaguar dealership to call and put him straight!!!
10. Battery died after leaving the courtesy light on and not using it for 2 days-jumping it from the trunk was a treat!!!

Overall this is the best decision I ever made. The car is the best looking car on the road.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

I think the surround works with Sat and FM but as I said the radio fidelity is not as good as the CD so the effect may well be lessened. I also have the system set to Dolby PL II (or is it III) for all audio.

I have to say even the premium sound system (Alpine) for early XK's are a disappointment. Unless I have a wrong setting... But I read the manual thoroughly, and have the Surround feature on, etc...
