Default Rear Windows

2007 xk convertible.

The top goes up and down without issue, however the windows will not come up when closing the top.

The front windows work fine independently of the roof function.

I did a reset of the front windows per the owner’s manual.

I confirmed voltage at the battery. Even disconnected and charged battery to be 100% sure voltage was good.

I checked the alignment of the roof and confirmed that it is in fact locked down even though I get a red error on the console to the contrary.

All worked fine the day before this started happening.

Now I’m just frustrated!

Any thoughts?

Is there a DTC indicated on the instrument panel or does everything appear normal with the exception on the rears raising?

Using the procedure in the owners manual or the instructions in the JagWrangler Remote Kit Installation Guide, do a reset on the roof.

Something that is worth a try, since it doesn't cost anything:
1. Open the top
2. Close the top, but as the top closes, continue to hold the close button for at least a minute after the top and windows finish moving. I mean it, hold that button a long long time.

If that doesn't work, you may need to follow the procedure to manually latch the front on the top. There is a section in the owners manual for that.
If it is latched, perhaps a sensor has gone bad (thought there was a thread where someone had that issue...).

If that doesn't solve your issue, then go to thejagwrangler.com or get in touch with White XKR through a pm on the Forum. He is the inventor of the remote top controller and probably knows more about tops and windows than anybody on the Forum, + he is a great guy and very helpful. Good luck, and by the way I highly recommend the purchase and installation of his remote top controller with the rear window controls.

Default Solved!

After taking the advice of everyone on this thread, I contacted white xkr and he took me through processes but to no avail....he suggested I take to the dealer. White xk has the patience of a saint and I appreciate all of the time he worked with me!

I took it to my local indy shop and low and behold, there were breaks in the convert top harness. The tech stated that he sees this frequently on aging cars!

Well $570 later, the top goes up and the windows follow as designed.

Thank you to this forum!

Hi John, just as a matter of interest, did your indie repair or replace that harness?

It was a repair...not a replace.

Looks like a relatively simple fix.....if you know where to look and how to actually perform the repair!

Good for you ! I wish there was a separate quarter windows button that would overide and allow you to independently raise / lower those windows instead of being tied to the top procedure...

You can, but only if you have White XKR's remote control soft top kit with the optional rear window controls. That's what the factory forgot. I highly recommend it.

With my 2012 convert. you can lower and raise the rear windows when the top is up but you can't raise them with the top down. I suspect it's a matter of finding the sensor or lock out switch that would by pass the lock out. this has been done with the remote top modification but not as a separate mod.

All the control for the top and the rear windows is out of a single (convertible control) module on the X150, it is not distributed like it is on the X100. The module also contains the relays for the rear windows, soldered internally on the printed circuit board, so you cannot simply tap into them like you can on the X100 to control the rear windows.

The beauty of the implementation with the Remote Top Kit is that you do not have to hack the wiring with a bunch of heavy duty switches and relays, and it works for both rear windows with a simple 3-presses of the EXISTING passenger window button. Also the logic in the Remote Top kit computer totally prevents the windows and top from getting in conflicting positions and potentially causing expensive damage or rapid wear.

For folks who write and tell me they are primarily interested in the manual rear window control, I always offer a significant discount on the Remote Top Kit, and they still get the remote top features and one-touch top features.

People have asked me for instructions on how to hack the rear windows without the Remote Top kit, but I do not publish it or offer it because it is all to easy to damage the convertible top module with a single wiring error and damage the convertible top seals or rear window regulator mechanisms with improper manual sequencing of the rear windows.
