Unfortunately not. You would need the new plinth as well. That part is the latch, not the new updated button. I think you need part 16 but haven’t had a moment to load up JEPC yet to check for the official number.

Correct and you will lose the visual of the sonar park distance.

That would be my take Cee Jay. A blue or black screen when in reverse. They would prolly ask you if you wanted to disable the pictogram which means you'd be flying blind when backing you (get to work on the neck stretches), until you install the camera.

You can also leave the pictogram on and it will block the back up camera view until you tap the touch screen, at which point it will disappear.

So depending on what you want, you might be in for two trips to the dealer.

Are you sure? I thought the pictogram was a separate on/ off feature, no?

I did not see that option in CCF.

The way the camera works.

Select reverse, video image shown on screen (or blue screen if camera not connected)

Press the screen once, the video disappears, you see the graphic of the car with park sensor indication.

Press the screen again, back to the normal screen (sensors still working)

Just tried it, shift to reverse to see the cam, tap screen and there’s the live graphic for the sensors!

Brilliant, had no idea.

On my non-camera car, if I press the screen when the parking sensor graphic is active, it goes away. However, after doing so it never comes up again upon selecting reverse! Is this normal? It does start working after restarting the car, but otherwise I have yet to figure out how to make them come back.

If you have front sensors as well, what happens when you press the button in the overhead console, either once or twice.

On my 2010 all you have to do is press the Parking assist button "P" on the overhead console and it will bring back the park assist screen, or turn it off if it is already on.

Cheers,

Dave

Sorry to derail but is that a spot for sunglasses in your overhead?

Sorry, not mine, just grabbed the quickest Google Image showing the Park Assist Button, after looking that photo was from an XJ. Probably would make a nice upgrade for XK owners that want a place for Sunglasses (or reading glasses in my case :-).

I do indeed have front sensors. I just tried this today; upon selecting R, the graphic comes up, and if I touch it, it goes away. However, selecting N or D and then R again won't bring the graphic back. Pressing the roof console button activates and deactivates the sensors, and accordingly turns on or off the small red light on the button, but the once-hidden graphic won't come back, even after driving 20 minutes between the attempts. It always works after restarting the car, though.

Of course, my car is a pre-production demo/press car, and there are some quirks on it. Perhaps this is another one...

On my 13 I press the button on the overhead console for the front sensors when parking if I have not shifted to reverse first. That turns the front sensors on. If I press the button on the console again that turns the front sensors off. After they are turned on they will automatically turn off when the speed is above 5 mph.

Mine works exactly like that, only the graphic fails to come back if it has been dismissed earlier.

There do seem to be subtle differences between the parking systems on the 4.2 v 5 litre cars. I park in a car park that is down a long drive while I am at work and in my old 4.2 I could press the button in the overhead console while I was going down the drive and the parking system would then come on once I had dropped below the maximum speed for it to work. On my 5L the button seems to be disabled until I am below the maximum speed.

I gotta admit this is a PITA. Just another Jag thing I guess as my old 2010 Lexus front sensors seem to be on all of the time. I can be sitting in a parking lot waiting for my bride and if someone walks by the front of the car the sensor goes off. Same with the rears.

Interesting, my 2014 Lexus has a switch to turn the front sensors on/off (park assist), and a separate switch to turn off the rear side sensors (cross traffic alert). Don’t think the rear parking sensors can be switched on/off.

Sorry and you're right. I leave my switch on all of the time.
