I just added an additional windshield mounted 11,26 ” CarPlay screen to my car (excellent and very useful add-on for only 60 USD on Aliexpress BTW, the best driving aid added to date to my car with the HUD).
Now I’d like to keep the central cigarette lighter for other purposes and use the one that is hidden in the glovebox. But I don’t find any proper way to route the cable out of the glovebox when its door is closed. Did any of you find a way (without drilling any hole of course)…
(Yes I can (and do currently) use a multi-socket on the central lighter. But as I’m keeping the screen permanently installed, hiding the cable in the glovebox will be much nicer).
Thanks,
Thierry

If you’re keeping the item permanently installed, you might want to consider getting power directly from a tap on the cabin front fuse box.
If you really want to keep powering it from that glove box lighter socket, I’d look to see how that socket gets its power. Got to be an existing hole for wiring. Maybe you can route your power back out through the same hole.
I've had my dash camera supplied from that socket for many, many years, I just thread the cord through between the box door and into the door molding and up the A-pillar and along the top of the windscreen. Never had a problem.
Thanks both, the lighter has only it’s head in the compartment, see attached picture, and the glove box door is too tightly adjusted to close with a cable in-between, but while taking the picture I noticed there are three thin indentations
at the bottom of the door. Will investigate if there is a way through them.
I tried every which way to fit a cable/ supply from this socket; on my car (X150), the fit of the glovebox lid was so tight that it would not latch properly. gave up in the end, and bought an 3 way adaptor for the cigarette lighter, which also, incidentally, had an easy on/off button, which increased my confidence in not creating a battery drain. Given how sensitive we know these cars are to any cause of voltage drop ....
