Default Strange cable in right foot well

2008 xk. While working on the sound panel in the passenger's foot well, I found a strange looped stainless steel cable. It is very close to the foot well light. The cable has a very sturdy crimp where it loops back on itself. It is clearly made to be pulled on. I was very tempted to pull on it to see what it was for, but, I didn't pull. I was told a long time ago, that if you didn't know what something did, don't mess with it. Can anybody tell me what this cable is for?

More details needed, which way does the cable go? Picture might help to identify.

True enough. However the only cable in the vicinity that I’m aware of is for the glove box.

Does your glovebox open slowly or drop suddenly? If the latter, I am with Guy...the cable probably detached from the glovebox door arm.

The glove box uses a thread, not a cable.

I guess you can call it a thread, but to me it's quite a bit thicker - see photo below (the captions are mine and were added to the photo that I posted in another thread).

As to the OP's question, what he can see may not be related to the glovebox, since he says it's stainless steel and the cable/thread below is clearly not. Might Jaguar have used stainless steel in the 2008 XK glovebox damper? Could be, but it seems like overkill.

The best next step would be for the OP to investigate further and provide pictures.

It is not right. The glove box door usees a cable for connection with the glove box damper. I know the problem. The answer above from Bill Mack is true.

Evidently this thread will be utterly useless unless there is at least a picture of the offending cable and its location.

Chord is probably a better description but from memory it winds tightly inside a sprung cylinder so a metal cable wouldn't be pliable enough.

I have had to repair two and took pictures last time. This is what the one on my 5 litre looked like. It doesn't have the wound cable look that something like a bicycle brake cable has.

Regardless, it should be no where near the foot well light because it is on the opposite side of the glove box.

As Cee Jay said, a photo of the offending cable would be useful.
