A Sad Day
Yesterday, after I parked my XKR curbside on the street, as I was getting out of the car (actually had my left foot out of the car already), a woman turning right out of an alley right behind my car misjudged the distance, turned too sharply and essentially tore my driver's side door off of its hinges bending it so far forward it dented the front quarter panel as well. And to add insult to injury, she told her insurance carrier that I opened my door into her car (a complete lie). This is the first body work ever done to my cat (except for the bumper/diffuser that I swapped when I first bought the car), and I can't even bear to post a picture, it's so gruesome. I drove straight to the body shop, holding the door with my outstretched left arm. I guess it could have been worse, she could have taken my left arm and foot with her as I was still holding the handle when she hit me. Oh well, I guess we'll get rid of some rock chips on the hood and lower valance while it's at the shop, but I'm nervous at to how the paint will match after 10 years. Sad Day!

Happy Day! Just picked up my XKR and the paint work is exceptional. It looks as good as it did new. And since the hood, front bamper/fascia and front splitter, and hatch were also painted, it got rid of a lot of "sins" that had been there before. Looks like a new car! It's raining out right now or I would have snapped some pictures, but I'll do so later or tomorrow. It felt so good driving her again instead of the minivan. Happy Day!
If it comes down to it, I'm sure the bank that I was headed to probably has some. In the meantime I ran it through my insurance and told them that I would not agree to them allowing a claim against me from the other party.
tberg,
I'm very sorry that happened, but it could have been a lot worse if you had been injured. The repairs might not be as bad as it looks assuming there's no structural damage. It's relatively easy to replace a door and fender. I hope you took pictures of her car (I'm sure you took pictures of your XKR), because if only the front of her car is damaged, and not the side, that proves that your door was fully open when she hit you.
I'm no insurance expert, but I believe you have a strong case that she is 100% at fault in this accident. You were parked and exiting your car when she hit you. That makes it 100% her fault if the initial point of contact was the front of her car. Make sure you have it repaired at the body shop recommended by your dealer and insist on brand new OEM Jaguar parts. If your insurance company agrees that she is 100% at fault, your company will subrogate against hers and hopefully recover the entire cost of the repairs, including your rental car, deductible, and Diminished Value. Your insurance company should reimburse your deductible and pay the DV. Read this entire thread, and particularly my post #45 about DV:

I hope the insurance company doesn't want to consider it a total loss.
I was in a restaurant eating when someone came in and told me they hit my mint condition x300 in the parking lot. It was about $3,200 worth of damage and it was too close to the NADA value because of mileage over 10,000.
There was no way I was going to accept the offer to Total it so we agreed to fix it using used parts. Came to about $1,700. Wasn't perfect but was better than a beautiful car turning into a parts car.
I know we're talking about an x150 vs an x300
But the insurance companies don't put a lot of value in older high-mileage jaguars.
I hope you are able to work something out.

Your life, left arm and leg, etc. is worth so so much more than a door and fender dent. It could have been so much worse. You'll have your car back in no time and let the insurance company settle the claim. Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience, Ted. I'm glad you were not personally injured. I understand your frustration.
Great you are not hurt. As for the car considering the present value is around $22K unless you have suspension damage or the A pillar is damaged you should be able to have insurance pay for it. Good luck and keep us posted.
Tberg....So sorry to hear about your aggravating incident. No worries....A good body shop should be able to fix and repaint your car to your satisfaction. With professional blending techniques, blending into the front fender as well as rear quarter should hide any color or shade differences. Glad you are ok.....We need you on this forum! Keep us posted.
Glad your OK
Not a comparison by any stretch of the imagination, but learnt today that my 17yr old son stole my Ex's MY20 Range Rover Velar and wrote it off last weekend whilst drunk and out for a joyride.
Her insurance aren't paying as stolen by a family member, no one was injured and he's off to a young offenders institution.
The little twerp had the audacity to shoot a video of the car with airbags deployed and hazards going off to upload onto social media! So clearly no remorse and, as much as I don't like her, her and the car didn't deserve that. My son however deserves everything the law throws at him.

Ted, your story is more than a sad one but, as others have stated, we are thankful you were not injured! We are living in an age of absolute indifference to honesty and each other. I know that you feel a bit violated right now but it will pass once your baby is properly repaired.
MarkyUK, yours is a sad one as well. Lets hope the boy gets the help needed to straighten his life out.

Sadly I dont think so, in 2019 I had to put up with drugs (I called the police on him myself) trespass, malicious damage theft & assault and had the police knocking on my door 8 times in total. The final straw was when he stole €500 from me I had set aside for our holiday this year..
So I put him in the care system 29th Oct, he lasted 2 days before crying for mummy* Within 24hrs of getting him she was asking me for maintenance...which I paid as believe everyone should pay for their kids.
But sadly my daughter saw him out riding a scooter last night with no helmet (a legal requirement here) being chased by the police.
* convicted of assaulting both kids in 2011...she's American but am sure that doesn't have anything to do with it
Am.just trying to detract tbergs from his pain
My GF wondered why I carried all of my keys for all.cars when I visted her....now she knows...lol
