sand getting in the ignition push button
Hi I have an XK and had already twice the problem of sand and dust getting around the ignition push button in two years.
Once I could not stop the engine anymore ( the answer from the jaguar assistance was that I should let my engine run until the tank is empty) and the second time I could not start it.
I live close to a beach and as soon as I leave my top down, the wind is sometimes enough to bring sand inside the car.
NOw jaguar even tells me that it is my fault and I had to pay for the past repair and spend half a day to go and pick up my car at the dealer..
Do you know of any simple system which could help preventing sand and dust to enter around the ignition push button ??
Thank you.
Joel

The sand is getting in alot of other places too: one example would be inside your doors, as it enters between the glass and the rubber waist seal at the top of the doors. Now you have sand stuck in the grease which lubricates the window regulator mechanisms.
You have sand entering your climate control system through the defroster ducts at the top of the dash. It's getting in alot of other places too, those are just the first examples that came to mind.
And while this is happening, the leather in your interior is being baked and degraded by direct sun and ultraviolet light.
I think if you look in your owner's manual you might find some detailed instruction for the steps necessary to address all of these possibilities. Try looking in the index under "Raising the Convertible Top".
