Default Say something good about your XK

If I would have found the web site before I bought my XK I don't know if I would have bought it.
I had my BMW Z4 for 17 years, only problems happened in the last two , fuel pump and starter, 17 years, 77k miles, great car.
I love my 2010 XK, but I read about : whirring noise, check engine light, limp mode, roof issues, timing chain, convert. top problems and many more items.
I know this site is for information on issues, but I'd also like to hear about how great and trouble free my Jaguar is, 10 years old, 100k, still runs great, mine is 15 years old and have had very minor problems, best car I've ever had, planning on keeping my XK for years to come.
I know there are owners out there that have had very good experiences with their cars, I just want to be assured that I didn't by a POS

I walked into the house from the garage the other night and said "I love you". My wife heard me and said 'I love you too". I told her I was talking to my Jaguar. We've had a quiet couple of days.

jbmi, I can't give you a long-term review, since I've only owned my XK for a tick over two months. However, in that time I've found the car to be beautiful, comfortable (my wife agrees), powerful (enough for me) and rock-solid reliable. I've put on about 1k miles and have never felt the car would let me down on the road. I take the car out almost every nice day - I want to get in as much time as possible before snow/ice/salt/grit appear here.

My other car is a Subaru Outback, and the XK is not the "set it and forget it" car that the Subie is. It's similar in my mind to motorcycles. The Japanese bikes I've owned were low-maintenance, problem-free. Bikes from other countries are more of a handful. I've also owned English bikes and German bikes (and was a BMW motorcycle dealer for a while) and while they have a different character than Japanese bikes, they require a little more care and have a few more quirks. That certainly doesn't mean they are POS.

Same for the XK. Enjoy yours!

I've owned a lot of Jaguars over the past fifty years and my 2007 XK 4.2 Coupe was the most reliable of all.

I've blown several XJ6 engines, rebuilt a few BW 12 transmissions, replaced XJ40 engine timing chains and transmissions, X300 suspension, X308 electronics. XK8's eat suspension parts and the cooling system is fragile. The 2007 XK 4.2 needed little more than standard servicing apart from the PPS (Pedestrian Protection System) sensors which you don't have on US specification vehicles.

My current XK has had injectors and is super-sensitive to battery condition but that's not unusual with modern Jaguars. It does have an appetite for rear tyres but that may be my driving style.

Forums attract posters looking for answers to problems so anyone looking at ours would think Jaguars spend all their time in the shop. I'm always pleased and interested to read reports of high mileages and long Jaguar trips but not many members post about these.

You probably didn't buy a POS but you defininitely didn't buy economy transport. These are complex vehicles that do require regular attention to keep them running reliably.

I had n X100 (XK8) for 14yrs and no issues. Now an XK Dynamic R for over 2yrs.

No issues whatsoever

My latest:

Has got through 3 x UK MOT's with no advisories
Has delivered 32mpg on 200 mile drive (26.5mpg in US gallons)
Has only managed to wear 2mm off MPS4S's in 10k miles
Costs less than £300 a year to service
Hasn't used any oil or coolant
Is cheap for me to insure (£300/$370 per annum)

Yep it's having a new nose to the SC next week, but it'll be money well spent.

I have an '11 XKR convertible, and it's a very comfortable and capable GT car. I drove it 1200 miles over 2 days and was averaging 90+ mph during some stretches, and the car didn't break a sweat. I've owned the car for just under a year and haven't had any major issues. The only thing that failed on me was the windshield washer pump. It's also a gorgeous car and attracts a lot of positive attention, which may be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your personality.

Of all the jags my son and I have owned, the 08 XKR has been more reliable by leaps and bounds.

Earlier today I was watching 'the wizard' on YouTube working on a V12 XJS. Never again...

I actually really love my XK (X150). She is a good looking sexy thing, with the voice of 8 horny Angel's 🤗
I especially love the auto blip down change in sport mode, which is accentuated by an after market exhaust. Sounds like a Merlin engine as it roars and like a leopard on tbe over run😎😂

What's a keeper? Timeless beauty, advanced engineering, fun to drive, and not often seen.

My 2009 XKR Portfolio convertible is a keeper.

Mid 80's VDP's Ive owned had a timeless look imo but I had 2 and don't miss them. I loved my 05 SV8. Never had a problem with it. I have an 07. My favorite car of all time.

I replaced my 2003 SL500 with my 2009 XK Convertible two years ago. The XK is more comfortable, faster, handles better, more reliable and way more unique. Other than normal maintenance the only issue was to replace the radio. Couldn’t get the microphone to work for phone calls and no audio for aux input. Bought one from a wreck on eBay for $80.00. I made over the interior to newer black console trim and seat controls, added a rear view mirror/camera,

wrapped the wood with carbon fiber, installed Cambo’s CarPlay and sourced a set of Takoba wheels. Instead of buying a warranty, I put $4500.00 aside to pay for repairs. Since I’m a conservative investor, it’s worth about $5200.00 now. Now at 61,000 miles, I’ll keep it a long time.

Of course I had to include mine😎

The point about the forum only showing people in need of help is valid. Had my car since 2017, only started posting this year to sort a couple of well known issues that are an easy fix.
i cannot believe how easy these cars are to work on.
I could cope with a few problems because it is such a good looking car. If you want to know what problems look like take a peek on a TVR or Maserati forum

I have 180,000 miles on my 2010 XKR. It is far and away the best automobile I have ever owned, It has been mostly reliable with a few hiccups and so much better than my X100 XKR that I can't even get myself to drive the X100 anymore. It's been so good that I have my eye on a 2011 convertible on Bring a Trailer that is stuck at $18000., and the car only has 9500 miles on it!! After seven years of ownership, over 110,000 (out of the 180,000) miles of driving it, I still love driving it, looking at it, washing it, enough to consider getting another. I could soon be a 3 XKR owner.

I have an '08 XKR @42k - new to me this August - and it has me smitten. Let me help you with the negative dissonance reverberating through the forum.
First, my credentials: I belong to 7 forums, five different cars and two motorcycles. I don't wrench.

I can assure you the majority of forum posts are about problems... people trying to figure out and needing guidance on how to fix something; people who don't know how to fix anything trying to find out how to fix something; and people trying to figure out if the dealer ripped them off.

Take heart in knowing the forums are not statistically valid samples. The complainers do not represent the majority of owners. I have found in higher-end car forums like here and Audi, there are some very techno-savvy members who contribute great knowledge and advice. They freely share their wealth of experience. These are the people in the forums I give credence to, seek their comments, and trust their judgement.

Every marque, and every nameplate is going to have lemons. Frustration drives many members as they may have tried appropriate channels and are left holding the bag. I don't care if you have a Ford or a Porsche, this is going to happen. And the forums provide a wonderful place to vent and bitch and moan.

It can be difficult to cut through the clutter of negativity to find what it is you are seeking.

The XK and XKR are truly exceptional automobiles. When I added the XKR vert to our stable, my wife was all "why do we need this" and "why did you get that" ....... until we took a 2100 mile New England fall tour in October, and now she is totally on board. Evening top-down rides became the norm until we garaged her for the winter (the car, not the wife).

This car defines GT motoring. It is a timeless nod to pleasure, skill, art and interactive physics. It also represents a particular niche in piloting automobiles that is slowly disappearing. The appreciation, legacy and aura of these cars is unmatched. Enjoy, and revel in your decision to have joined this rarified club.

My 2013 XKR vert may well be the best car I have ever owned. It is well built, still tight at 45+k miles, very responsive, a joy to drive and basically trouble free except for replace the water pump. Have made several road trips including my better half of up to 2k miles and never a complaint. It is IMO the epitome of a GT with lots of agility and guts while being comfortable for a full day on the road. You can't do much better at twice the price.

Not had any issues with my 2008 MY XKR 4.2 s/c model. In August we did a 2,000 mile round trip to the south of France, much of the journey at 100 mph + on French Autoroutes and the car never missed a beat. Performed faultlessly. In addition, it was supremely comfortable, quiet when required and had plenty of room for our luggage. The last service cost less than the equivalent service on my Mitsubishi L200 truck, which has less than 20k miles on it at the time. I have found running costs to be no more than any other performance car, and less than many that I have owned. Combine that with beautiful, timeless looks that never fail to turn heads (including my own when I park it and walk away) and I think this car is a keeper for me!

Just to make the obvious point that people come to forums when they have a problem. Forum members are not representative of the user base of any product and few owners join forums to report, well, nothing. Also, you may be selectively reading the posts of some members because often, in among the questions and comments about various problems, they do comment on what wonderful cars the X150s are. The general take-away I get from many of the posts is that most of the owners in these threads adore their Jaguar XK series cars and never cease to compliment them on their grace, space and pace. Sure, sometimes the cars have issues - name an older, high performance car with a few miles under its belt that doesn't. But generally, the love felt for these cars tells you all you need to know - for many, they are keepers.

No issues to date. The best car I have ever owned for driving position, looks, road holding and smiles per miles. Without doubt, the complete package.

the XK and XKR are a bright flash in a dark universe of automotive design, and transportation law, and even economic health of the world.

they are the scion of the E-type, the best looking vehicle in human history. they are perhaps its last scion: geoff lawson has passed away, and ian callum is retired. ian's F-type has stylistically departed from the E-type's shape in order to be more appealing to contemporary taste. now there is nothing wrong with that, and it's not even a large departure, but that is the opposite of timeless almost by definition. moreover, it has the added benefit that it may also keep jaguar alive, so no complaints here. yet the XK remains, as stated by others, timeless. i don't think anything will replace it, nor do i think anyone will replace ian or geoff, for a very long time.

these cars do exactly what they are intended to do, and everything a GT car should do. you couldn't draw a venn diagram of it without two perfectly overlapping circles. with all the overbearing regulations of the entire world, affecting design and fuel economy and all that, they're a true diamond in the rough. they might have ended up as boring as any german car. they might have ended up as expensive as a comparable aston-martin. they didn't. it is conceivable that no production car will ever repeat this feat, as those laws continue to poison the well for designers and creators.

and this has all happened despite its target market being beset upon almost immediately by the great financial crisis of the world, in two historic crashes: production began in 1996 and survived both 2001 and 2008.

i think the XK's future is a lot like the present for the 90s toyota supra, once all those young motorheads are bored of the JDM fad.

all that said, you might think i'd build a shrine with a $2000 bespoke battery maintainer to keep it in. no, i'm still going to drive mine to its death. how can you not? it's an experience you can't miss in life.

Timeless is the most appropriate word IMO. The XK/R looks as beautiful today as the day it was made, and will continue to do so. Designed 14 or 15 years ago, how many other cars from the same design era look as good today as the day they were conceived, or will continue to do so for years to come? There is a certain 'rightness' about its proportions and the flow of its lines. It looks beautiful from every angle - from the side, the front, the rear and the three-quarter. Few cars can match that. One can almost imagine Ian Callum working with a pencil on a blank sheet of paper, just as William Lyons did before him, the lines flowing from his creative mind through his hand to the paper before him. No doubt that is fanciful, as Callum had a raft of legislation to comply with which did not burden Lyons.

And its looks translate into its performance too. It drives like a modern car and every journey is a special journey, where you feel good to be part of the vehicle, fresh when you reach your destination, and surprised at the pace at which you have accomplished it, without even trying. And when you park and walk away, you turn back for a lingering look, and smile to yourself. The hallmark of a truly great car.

Best car I've ever owned. And the least thought-through purchase. 4 hours before I bought it, I had never ever considered a Jag. At all. tberg recommended it on our back then common Pantera forum. Had time on my hands, saw ad, drove to dealer, test drive, haggling, signed. Then back home to tell my wife I bought a Jaguar. "But you never talked about Jaguars?" No, but one can get wiser... Still... :-)
