Scratched glove box door

Scratched glove box door
My girlfriend managed to scratch the black leather on the glove box door on my either wise flawless interior. I guess it was either her ring or handbag. These things happen but of course it bothers me. The leather is not torn, but you can see a thin line (2 or 3 inches) that has the leather somewhat bunched up. I put a fair amount of lexol on it and the entire door knowing it wouldn't really do much. A new door is $650 without the install....wow! Any suggestions as to get the door cheaper or should I just take a Xanax! Thanks all.

I forgot to mention, you should use a q-tip to dab the baby/olive oil into the scratch before using a cloth to swirl it. Also, after it dries and you give the surface area a wipe with a damp cloth, if the scratch is still visable, try using a steamer on the area. (not too close) This may bring out the natural oils in the leather to help "heal" the damage.
If none of this works, the Xanax route may be the next step.
Best of luck.

Thanks ndy.boyd. From your mouth to God's ears! If it works, I'm sending you a case of Johnson's Baby Oil!

I've used some olive oil on a q-tip. Could this stain the area and make it worse or will it come off with the damp cloth and some lexol?

No, it should not stain the leather. What it does is it softens the edges of the scratch so that it more easily blends back into or close to its original form. What color is your leather? If its a very light color, you may be given comfort if you try it on an inconspicuous location first, but I've done this procedure on light tan leather and it had no discoloration effect. Just make sure that you spread it about after the q-tip application.

Just a lightly dampened cloth. Did you take a pic of the scratch. I'd like to see it, if possible. Once the olive oil soaks in, take a marble, if you have one and roll it gently, back and forth across the scratch to bring the edges back together. If you don't have a marble, use the back of a soup spoon, but don't press very hard.

You are a regular surgeon!!! Great advice. I was getting myself crazy (which is not hard to do) and went out to wipe the olive oil off with a moist cloth. It came right off. It is not that noticeable unless you look for it. Your advice with the marble or a soup spoon sounds good, but sometimes "less is more" is the best way to go. I think I'll leave it alone for the time being other than doing another q-tip olive oil treatment. My girlfriend will be taking her rings off and leaving her handbag in the trunk from now on.
