It did not occur to me that passive arming is different from passive locking. Got me to searching.
Passive arming, our option, turns on the perimeter alarm after 60 second when all doors, hood and trunk are closed.
If an fobless unfortunate happens to open a door, all hell breaks loose.
Alarm without locking seems counter intuitive.

@Cee Jay would life be better turning off the passive arming feature?

XKs, XFs and probably XJs have the ability to select passive arming from the touch screen.
Newer JLR products require diagnostic access to make the selection.
Well, ****. I probably knew all that from years ago but totally forgot.
Nah, it doesn't bother ME, I get a chance to laugh at wifey when she does it though, so I'll probably keep it on.

@Bill400 , your and @Cee Jay 's 5.0 liter models may have the ability to select passive arming from the touch screen, but it appears 4.2 liter models do not. One must use SDD in Engineering Mode to change the setting; although, I cannot imagine turning it on in my 4.2 liter as I am routinely out in the garage tinkering on my car without the fob and would constantly be setting off the alarm. Following is a page about "Arming the Alarm" from the "XK Owners Handbook 09MY - Publication Part No JJM 10 02 30 901" confirming SDD is required.

.
Out of curiosity, I wanted to see SDD's parameter for activating the passive alarm, so I reviewed my Excel file of all 625 SDDv130 parameters and found that line-item number 411 does just that. It is shown below and my default setting is "Without automatic alarm activate[d]". I plan to leave it that way.

I also saw this, so it is evidently a UK thing and not ROW.
