Service Required
OK, so this message started showing up earlier this week, but I can't seem to figure out why. I don't have any CELs, and it's only been about 3000 miles since I had the oil changed. How can I tell what this message is about shy of spending half a day dealing with an in person service visit? Thoughts anyone?
It just says "service required" in yellow, then is replaced by the clock and never shows back up again until the next start cycle. No other messages in the main screen area, and I can't cycle back to the message. Has this message always been there and I've been too daft to notice it?

Thanks to Brutal for clarifying/confirming and this other website here: (http://www.jaghelp.com/2012/03/reset...jaguar-xf.html), this is the reset procedure for this, btw.
It's REALLY finicky for timing, but it does, in fact work. And the 'resetting service mode' indicator will come on right after pressing the foglamp button the second time -- so you know if you've got the sequence right pretty quickly. It takes another 15 seconds or so of holding both buttons to finish the reset, but if you watch the LCD it says things that make sense.
- Press and hold the rear lamp switch.
- Press the start button without applying the foot brake.
- Release the rear fog lamp switch.
- Press and hold the trip computer cycle switch.
- Press and hold the rear fog lamp switch.
- Continue to hold the trip computer and rear fog lamp switches.
- The message center should display "resetting service mode" and then "service mode reset"
- Release the trip computer and the fog lamp switches and turn the ignition off.

The link you provided is for the XF. One of the comments in that link says that it will NOT work on the XK/XKR. So, you are confirming that it DOES work the same on the XK/XKR?
Thanks for the post,

I've tried the reset above a dozen times on my 2010 XF but no joy. I'm unclear whether the ignition should be on before pressing and holding the fog light switch (in which case pressing the start button will turn the ignition off) or whether the ignition should be off before pressing the fog lamp switch for the first time (in which case pressing the start button will turn the ignition on) I've seen both instructions on the internet but neither seems to work. Any advise on timing (presses 1 second apart, 2 seconds apart etc)?
+1 works fine for a 2010 XKR. Got it on second go. Easier than the instructions suggest once you got the rhythm and keep foot OFF the brake pedal.
Fog light in...
Hit Start
Fog light out
Trip AND fog light in...
Wait for message...
Done...
Thanks to all. I just had a service, Stratstone clearly forgot to reset. They would have done it FOC I am sure but this saved me a round-trip, time plus fuel.

Warren, this is the XK/ XKR 150 forum but it will cost you nothing to try.
Hold rear fog light button, then quickly:
- press start
less than 1 second between steps
- release start and fog light at the same time
less than 1 second between steps
- now press trip and fog light at the same time....and hold
- Now keep holding them both 10-15 seconds until message says it's reset is done
