Default shock replacement info

I need to replace the rt. ft. shock on my 07 XK. I have a JTIS disk for the old XK8 cars and it looks like "no big thing". I have done a number of searches here on the Forum for the XK shock R&R procedure and haven't found any info.

Can someone direct me to info on XK front shock R&R procedure? Maybe a video?

Alternately, perhaps someone can confirm that the XK8 procedure is the same for the newer XK cars.

Hi,
I have just made a copy of how to do it! If you have a FAX no. I can send it to you.....
otherwise I'll try to scan it and send it e mail to you; if you give me your e mail address.
FAX is easier for me; scanner/e mail doesn't always work.

I'm just curious; what is wrong with the shock and how did you identify the problem?

I have not yet spent much time looking at my '08 XK but, I took off the shocks from the '05 XK and it was rather straight forward, easy. Once you remove the shock/spring assembly, you will need a spring compressor and an electric or air-driven impact gun to take the spring off.

Adrian,
The FAX came through this am after I cleared a paper jam. Fortunately my FAX machine has a memory. Many thanks. I'm glad I made connection with you as the procedure XK8 vs 07 XK is a bit different.

Albert,
The problem was id'ed by the tech at Jag Orlando in the course of an alignment procedure. The shock is leaking fluid, no drips on floor but it will wet your finger and is obvious when car is up in the air. So far, I have been unable to id an after mkt. source for the shock. Jag of Orlando quoted $722 parts and labor to correct the problem. SOAB!

But there is wonderful news. Jag informed me that the car is a "select edition" vehicle. Apparently, the previous owner did not inform Mercedes of Ft. Myers when he traded it ------ so who knew? Unfortunately, "select edition" does not cover shocks. SOAB! Select Edition extends to 30 Aug 2013 or 100,000 miles.

I've had the car 30days and this was my 1st visit to a dealer service provider. Jag of Orlando is an impressive operation but cheep they ain't.

If any of you blokes have info on after mkt. source for shocks, I'm interested.

Tarheal,
I've bought discounted OEM parts for my wife's XK8 from Gaudin of Las Vegas at Gaudin Luxury Cars Las Vegas, New & Used Porsche, Jaguar, Fisker Car Dealer Las Vegas, Nevada. easy and quick to deal with.
Glad you got the instructions from my AllData XK service; it's pretty complete, although not as good as the JTIS I have for the XK8 and the XKE repair books. You might want to sign up for it if you want to do your work on mechanical stuff.
Just bought brake tool kit because of the silly thread on the rear brake calipers; never need that before until the XK.................been fixing my Jags, cars, motor home and boats for over 50 years; still learning!

I'm getting ready to replace the front shock/strut assembly. Has anybody out there performed this operation using a spring compressor on the strut and on the car BEFORE removing the unit from the car.

The ALLDATA procedure I have requires one to remove the shock/strut "uncompressed". This requires removal of the:

Stabilizer bar link
Height sensor link
Upper suspension ball joint
Lower suspension arm

All well and good but it seems to me if one were able to compress the shock/strut on the car most of these steps could be eliminated. Maybe we have a Jag Tech out there who has dealt with this in the past?
